I donned a tattered leather jacket and went along, not expecting too much from a bunch of ageing punks, but what the hell do I know? I was a fan first time around and saw them at the Rainbow in 1980.The atmosphere in the audience that night was pretty hostile and we left during the encores. This was a totally different experience, a great night that focussed very much on the first 4 albums, as well as the current one, No Going Back. The playing was fast and loud as you’d expect, and Jake Burns’ song introductions were both funny and informative. Was it really 35 years between gigs? Didn’t feel like it. They played At The Edge second song in and I could have gone home happy then! I fell in love with the band all over again and have played little else since. The only downside for me was no Johnny Was, but that’s a minor disappointment. For any lapsed fans out there check out the new CD, you won’t be disappointed (or, better still, go and see them).
Middle aged punks (and punks at heart).
