I saw them back in the seventies for free when I helped carry their gear in and out of St George’s Hall, Bradford. I would have fancied seeing them on this farewell tour except the tickets seemed to be too stupid a price for my pocket.
Paranoid will always be my Sabbath song. I watched this show and it had a lasting impression on my 15-year-old brain.
I guess the BBC coverage is a sign of the growth in celebrity culture ( for want if a better phrase).Everyone has heard of Ozzy and presumably a lot know he is Sabbath. Paranoid aside, a very small proportion will have actually heard any of their songs.
Ms Moles and daughter (latter in her new incarnation as Rock Chick) were at the gig and had a thoroughly good time. They played nothing much written after about 1973, so no no Neon Nights predictably…. I watched The Wolf of Wall Street and ate chicken lives and drank red wine, so also had an excellent time.
It was not as loud as I hoped. The solos went on a bit, and Ozzy was too much of a village idiot for me. But “Symptom of the Universe” has the great riff, their title track is a perfect evocation of those cider and ‘Rocky late nights when I was 16, andit would have a heart of stone not to warm to “Paranoid”.
Right. I was being a tiny bit mischievous with that clip but I do really love that song and album.
16 year old and my first band…of course we did a cover version of Paranoid (and Smoke on the Water, My Woman from Toyko and pretty much any other cliche) so I’ve got my history with them.
It wouldn’t surprise me to see them play one-off concerts in the future (the 50th anniversary of the first album is three years away), but I think that will be health permitting.
Black Sabbath are a successful brand now, I suppose. Like the Ramones, Motorhead and Bob Marley. They had Sabbath converse sneakers out a few years ago. I suspect we haven’t seen the last of that Master or Reality logo.
I always thought of them as over achievers. One classic song and Ozzy had one classic story (the Alamo drinking session). Not much more to them after that IMHO.
Ha! Come back and tell me that after you’ve listened to Spiral Architect, Thrill of it All, Wheels of Confusion and Supernaut a few times. Actually don’t, it’ll just upset my delicate constitution…

Saw them last week at Leeds and they were excellent
Set built around the first four albums plus “Dirty Women”
We’ll never see their like again!

I saw them in 1978 – supported by Van Halen (who were better than the Sabs). The show was captured for posterity here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGdtehZ1BZ0&t=123s

Now you’re just trolling. One successful song?!

Plenty were successful but I only think one was a classic. Then again I’ve never liked them.
