Twang’s post yesterday about David Gilmour’s birthday caused Bargepole to wonder who else shared our birthday – as well as Mr Gilmour, Bargepole shares with, among others, Michaelangelo, Elizabeth Barratt Browning, Frankie Howerd and John Noakes (get down Shep!)
Who are your birthday buddies?
Billy Connolly, Ian Botham. John Squire. Not bad.
Duke Ellington, Emperor Hirohito, Michelle Pfeiffer, Daniel Day Lewis and Uma Thurman. That’s a hell of a dinner party right there.
Also Lonnie Donegan, one of Westlife and the racist one from S Club 7.
George Washington, Bruce Forsyth, John Mills, Drew Barrymore, Mr & Mrs Baden-Powell, Julie Walters. A mixture of earnest but boring and good for a laugh.
Chronologically (and known to me) –
Euripides, Kublai Khan, Mickey Rooney, John Coltrane, Ray Charles, Julio Iglesias, Bruce Springsteen, Danielle Dax, Ani DiFranco, Karl Pilkington
From the sublime to the ridiculous, as they say.
Ah but more interesting is finding out who shares your actual date of birth. I share with John Sessions…. both 11/January/1953….
Have a go, Joe…….
Sharing actual date of birth with me is ………………… Brad Pitt!!
18th December 1963
Result… beats me I think
Ringo. Exactly a quarter of century my senior.
Does not count, Izzy…
Michael Stipe and Barney Sumner.
Alexander Graham Bell
Arthur Machen
Henry Wood
Jean Harlow
Ronald Searle
Doc Watson
Jimmy Garrison
Mike Pender
John Virgo
Jennifer Warnes
Snowy White
Lindsay Cooper (actual birthdate)
Robyn Hitchcock
Miranda Richardson
Fatima Whitbread
Tone Loc
Prof. Brian Cox
Charlie Brooker
Darren Anderton
Ronan Keating
Quite a mixed bunch there.
That’s a very long list of people I’ve never heard of…and a few that pleased me.
Aubrey Beardsley, Christopher Robin (Milne), Peter Weir, Joe Strummer and Budgie.
I’m a bit ambivalent about Princess Margaret and Kenny Rogers though!
Harry Enfield – born the very same day as me.
Cat Stevens / Yusuf Islam (Beardy Bloke)
Brian Talbot (ex Ipswich and Arsenal midfielder)
Howie Epstein (Keyboard player for The Heartbreakers)
Mollie Sugden (birthdate for her pussy remains unknown)
Bill Pertwee (“Turn that light out Napoleon” and Doctor Who’s cousin)
Ross Kemp (baldy actor, and ex member of the SAS)
Paloma Faith (mad as a box of frogs singer woman)
Robin Williams * (ex US Air Force Radio Presenter, cross-dressing housekeeper and one-time alien)
* Robin Williams – RIP – very funny bloke and a sad loss
The website link quotes Henry Priestman as being born on 21 July. So do others, but the arbiter of all knowledge (wikipedia) quotes 21 June. Incidentally, so does Henry himself (unless I’ve got confused again)
oh, and some twat from East 17 – Terry Coldwell.
Nope? I’ve never heard of him either (still doing the rounds in East 17 apparently (Butlins mainly))
According to most sources I was born the day before Catherine Zeta Jones, but I understand that she has fibbed about her age and is actually about 5 years older than she claims. So I’ll settle for being born two days before my favourite album, Abbey Road, was released and on the same day as the clown out of papal waker uppers Slipknot.
Anton LaVey, Jeremy Clarkson and Joss Stone.
Should I be worried?
Ah, but exact same day as Cerys Matthews. That’s more like it.
Leo Fender and Ian Anderson.
Alice Cooper and Natalie Imbruglia. Sadly, Karen Carpenter died on my birthday.
Morrissey. I win.
I’ve never heard of anybody who shares my birthday born after 1972 – is this a record? Happy enough with Roy Keane, Charlie Dimmock, Antonio Banderas, Ian (Tull) Anderson and Ronnie Spector. Oh and Charles Darrow, the bloke who invented Monopoly.
Kurt Cobain, Rihanna, Ian Brown and J Geils.

Without Googling it the one I know is I share mine with the immortal Rory Gallagher, and that is enough for me.
I’ve got Simon Pegg, Alan Parker and Tim Buckley. I’ve also got Lois Maxwell, Miss Moneypenny. That’s quite pleasing.
I’ve got a massive long list of folk I never heard of, but, touchingly, it includes an Irish racehouse, Azamour, born 8.3. 2001, who died last year.
Happy yester-birthday, Doc!
Mwah!
