Excuse this slightly self indulgent post as 25 years ago today Billy took his own life. I’ll be spending most of today listening to Billy or watching YouTube clips or reading personal stories on Twitter and Facebook about him. He does seem to touch people of a certain age in a way other pop stars don’t. The clip is him mucking about on French TV and then delivering a spine tingling performance of Kites. More self indulgently I’ve included again the link to my Associates Toppermost Top 10 piece.

Magisterial. Magical. Billy.

I’m sure I say it on every Associates thread, but Party Fears Two is STILL the most extraordinary song…
This is an absolute fact. It’s such a perfect pop song but so unlike any other pop song. Extraordinary is the right word.
Released 40 years ago today….
…like “I feel love,” still fantastical.
This came up on shuffle this evening. I like it well enough, but as I was listening I was imagining Billy doing it..
(Cameron Avery – Do You Know Me By Heart)
Perhaps (SWITD?) there’s a whole subgenre of “tunes you can’t hear without imagining Billy having a bash”?

This new comp popped up on Twitter this morning.
