The good people at Earth Recordings are soon to reissue Bert’s long unavailable Avocet. There are what promises to be beautiful lithographic prints with the LP version and with the CD, a hardback book with 24 pages of notes and brand new illustrations of each wading bird.
This comes hot on the heels of their re-release of the beautiful Moonshine last month.

Something lovely from Moonshine:
… And a link for you: https://bertjansch.bandcamp.com/album/avocet
Seemingly, I’ve done the notes. (The notes to a Sanctuary 90s CD reissue were used without my knowledge before manufacturing, but it was out of naivete rather than malice.) I concur with Steerpike: the Fire/Earth chaps do a great job and their hearts are in the right place. The ‘Moonshine’ pic disc is fabulous and I’m sure ‘Avocet’ will be stunning.
Colin, your reward will be in the next life if not this. Now if I could just touch the hem of your garment … Oh, a kaftan … Nice!
Here’s my original 1979 UK and US vinyl LPs of Avocet, together with the 2003 CD featuring sleevenotes by our own @colin-h
Autographed, too.

The original Danish version (it was released there first) has another sleeve entirely – the best one, until this new Earth vinyl version, IMO.
Any chance of a scan Colin?
The UK one looks a little naff with that picture of Bert in the corner almost like an afterthought.
I agree – the UK one was spoiled by the photo.
No, but it’s here:

Thanks, that’s what I meant by “scan”.
I knew you’d jettisoned all your Jansch material long ago.
A lovely, lovely album.
Played Moonshine yesterday. The mighty @steerpike nudged me towards purchasing it during a podcast ramble on Sunday evening. Monday dawned, I headed out to my home town of Chester, sauntered into HMV and sauntered out again clutching it to my manly breast. It’s been some time since I last heard Moonshine. It is exactly how I remembered it…marvellous.
I ordered `Moonshine` on vinyl about a month ago not realising it was a picture disc, so I had to get the CD because I didn`t want to fuck the picture disc up.
These artisan editions are lovely, but crikey I can’t help wondering how many people can afford to shell out 18 sovs for another copy of an album that’s been recently available for under a tenner.
Anyone who loves Bert will have this gem already surely? It’s not really been “long unavailable” – it is off catalogue now, but it’s relatively easy to find even now if you look around. I love this album (and Moonshine) but I already have lots of really good quality bird books!
I think they mean ‘long unavailable on vinyl’.
Ah yes, that makes more sense. I don’t think I’ve ever even seen a vinyl copy!
As of tomorrow I’ll be digitising some early 90s soundboard recordings of BJ, toward what the Earth Vinyl-meisters tell me is a prospective BJ 90s box set.
Looking forward to that!
Sleeve design post-Ziggy…..urgh…..but, boy, some of the sleeves that were landed on Bert after ‘Moonshine’ have to be seen to be believed.
Couldn’t have helped sales.
Exactly.
And I hate to rock the boat, but there have been 4 different sleeves for Live At The 12-Bar and all of them have been a bit rubbish. Even the latest one (below) looks like the result of a “Draw Bert Jansch” art competition for the under twelves.

There is something seriously wrong with that right leg amongst a host of other wrongity wrongness.
It’s based on this 1965/66 photo
