After years of the BBC dragging it’s heels you can now download programmes to listen to in your own time, just like you can do with their telly progs….travel listening sorted from now til they decide to pay per listen as per Eton Dave’s financial strategy roll out coming here soon.

Splendid news!

Great news. I’ve been on it since last Wednesday when it first was announced.
Large file sizes though so you can’t squirrel too much stuff away on your phone and their rights holders won’t let them allow you to save to SD card. A 3 hour Bob Harris Show is about 430 MB.

Ahem, have you tried Get_iplayer? Been using it for ages, bit fiddly but you can put the files anywhere you like.
Here’s some helpful stuff if you do D/L it

Thanks. Like you I’ve been using Get_iPlayer for years. There’s a very user-friendly version for Mac only called Get iPlayer Automator which acts a bit like a PVR:

3 hours radio from GetiPlayer is about 174MB but it’s the pissing around with iTunes synching that’s a pain. Will probably stick to this for TV (I’ve got a laptop full of telly already) and use iPlayer Radio app for the rest.

Yes an ahem… close friend of mine uses get_iplayer (for TV too),. As my phone is only 8GB and I have to keep deleting stuff the BBC version will be of limited use to me. Glad it exists though.

So there’s no way you can download the files onto your phone and somehow transfer them to an HDD (or similar) without using this get iplayer thing?

I’m a get iplayer user, had issues in past but for most of this year its behaved.
Cant see the link to download direct from BBC tho. What am I missing? I’ve already gotten most of the weekend shows I want for my ipod via get iplayer but wouldn’t mind trying the direct route to download yesterdays Johnnie Walker, can someone point me in the right direction, please?
Many thanks :o)

You can only do it on a mobile device and you need to get the latest update to the app.
