Another cock-up. Don’t say I didn’t warn ya.
A couple of weeks after saying the Queen was married while Spain was embroiled in civil war and Neville Chamberlain was beginning his appeasement of Hitler, BBC News last night enhanced their report about the death of the veteran Indian actor Shashi Kapoor with film clips of two different Bollywood stars, neither of which were Kapoor.
Come on, people.

Who cares?
His mum.
Who cares?
Jinx!
The Afterword… home of synchronised indifference!
Now if we could only get it introduced as an Olympic event in time for Tokyo 2020.
Gold medals aplenty!
Or Beijing 2020 as the BBC will report it. Because all those eastern cities look the same.
The Chinese! Great bunch of lads
Is this, perhaps the phrase that frees us all?
“Who Cares?”
I think a lot of people care about this one (Aasmah Mir for one – she tweeted about it last night). It really is pretty crass – the implication is that these Asian actors all look and sound the same, and, indeed, who cares?
We know that Bob certainly doesn’t.
How dare you? I’m aghast. Simply aghast.
But Bob, surely that interferes with not caring? I know you take not caring very seriously indeed – it surely requires all of the energy you would otherwise put into aghastness?!?
The good thing about not caring is it’s very effort-light. Leaves me free for at least a recreational level of aghastness. Requires a reasonable mastery of doublethink, but I grew up under Thatcher, so a pernicious lack of integrity and tolerance of cognitive dissonance is second nature.
Anyway, I’m nearly 40. I’ve got to get in training for all the Deeply Important Disapproving I’m told I’ll be engaging in over the next few years.
The point at which aghastness becomes The Ghastness.
The Ghastness TMFTL
You had grown up by the time Thatcher left power in 1990–when you were twelve? Tough childhood.
I was on the game by that time.
YOU PEOPLE KNOW NOTHING! NOTHING, I TELL YOU!
DAMN YOU — ALL OF YOU! EXCEPT BLUE BOY! BUT EVERYONE ELSE!
*storms out of thread then realises he can’t get back in again*
HELLO!? HELLO!? ANYBODY!?
Meanwhile, off camera, another expensively educated, unemployable little droopy-lipped wonder whose Dad is Change Management Director Of Something Meaningless gets dragged into a broom cupboard for a good beating for being so clueless, having spent oh, all of three minutes Googling “Bollywood” in order to grab some cheap copy for the News bulletin, as instructed by another chinless wonder who couldn’t be bothered to do it themselves. Neither of them, of course, are actually being paid to do any of this, and neither do they have any journalistic credentials to lose.

Yeah, no worries, yeah, cool. Say again?
Brilliant.
Bollocks.
I adore(d) the relationship between Will and Izzy in that show.
I adored…Izzy 😉
You lot do realise Chris Morris is behind these cock ups and you’re all going to be on the poster in quote marks don’t cha?
One of these days, Bob, you’re gonna get smugged off.
If I knew what that meant I’d probably be insulted.
Given that BBC News is said to have a couple of thousand journalists, one might expect a little better.
Still doing a pretty good job though, certainly trying to keep a reasonable perspective on the twin typhoons of Brexit and Trump, topics which have sucked up (SWIDT?) large swathes of 2017. Still presenting Britain’s reasonable face to the world and hated for it by The Sun &Co.
This poppy business though, folks. Swollen to three whole weeks now and definitely gaining an air of repressiveness. OOAA.
Yeah, so, Bollywood, whatever..
I can’t say I’ve ever felt any pressure from the poppy police but this piece, in particular the Cookie Monster Tweet (TMFTL) is wonderful – http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-trending-41930507
BBC journalist, just now, to Sadiq Khan, in Pakistan: “Does it feel like coming home?”
Sadiq Khan: “No, home’s South London, mate. It’s good to be in Pakistan. It’s good to come from India, home of my parents and grandparents”.
Not sure this one counts as a fact-check cock up, but ouch.
Now THAT one made me wince.
My parents are Pakistani and you get that a lot – “Where’s home?” “Well, I live in Germany but grew up in Shropshire” – “No, no, I mean your REAL home?”
Wow! The BBC are really taking the fight to Fox News.
“And now over to Jeremy Bowen in Bongo Bongo Land”
BBC carrier commissioning this morning…
“The Royal Navy has been in existence since the 16th century….this is obviously before our present queens reign, but her ancestors were on the throne”
1….erm, no shit Sherlock
2….erm, wrong again.
And just to compound the shit reporting…no dimensions of the boat (sly army dig) in either football pitches or Nelson columns.
Tch.
Nor weight in elephants, I’d hazard.
The Beeb could learn something from the extremely vigorous standards of Swedish TV channels. Particularly when it comes to identity protection ……
Hilarious!
