A top band back in the day, but pretty much overlooked now – the first two albums, probably their best work, get the deluxe reissue treatment.

Musings on the byways of popular culture
Hannah says
Mick Ralphs still plays live with the Mick Ralphs Blues Band, I’ve seen them a few times and they’ve been terrific.

Bad Co hit a rapid downward trajectory.
I saw them at Liverpool Stadium, before they had even released the first album. The place was sold out on the band’s pedigree alone.
They performed all the first album and the good stuff from Straight Shooter (Deal With The Preacher, Feel Like Makin’ Love etc). Once they were in full flight I don’t think they produced a single song worth a damn.
So I might get Bad Co and ignore the rest. I’ll see how the bonus material stacks up.
Bargepole says
Agree completely with your verdict, they quickly seemed to lose their way on subsequent releases – the bonus material is listed if you cut and paste the link in the OP.

I really like ‘Straight Shooter’ (for me their best album) but, sadly, not enough to shell out for either of these.
grac says
Not a huge fan but love the first album especially the title track which still sounds like a classic to these ears.
Rigid Digit says
The debut is up there with the best of the 70s Rock outputs.
Straight Shooter less so (although not massively), but still a very good record.
I agree with m’learned colleagues above – after those two it was a case of ever diminishing returns.
Difficult to know why? Paul Rodgers has never really found a vehicle to exploit his voice since.
And Mick Ralphs, Simon Kirke and Boz Burrell are as solid as anyone – surpirsed they’ve never found their way into these new-fangled ever changing “All Star” line-ups
(maybe they have, they’ve just declined the offer preferring to stay in the shadows)
Vince Black says
Boz is permanently in the shadows. He suffered a fatal heart attack in 2006
Rigid Digit says
Yeah – forgot that bit (oops)
(oh for an Edit function?)
Junior Wells says
the obvious question is will the remasters sound any better?
Paul Rogers still one of the great voices in rock. Agree it is a shame he has never found another steady band .By all accounts a good bloke.
Twang says
I made a needle drop of the first album and now it makes me want to do one of the second, but I think that will do me.
