My pals Johnny and Adele very kindly agreed to put a couple of videos together for two songs on my forthcoming record, Sunset Cavaliers. Here’s my homage to the late, great Billy Thorpe…

Interesting Colin, I was expecting a real riff heavy number.
Are you in touch with Gil Mathews? He is always interested n all things Aztec.
I’m afraid that’s about as riff heavy as I can get – everytime I try to ‘rock’, it always ends up sounding like folk music! Still, if you look closely you’ll find a reference or two to Bill[‘s lyrics and a chordal nod to Lobby’s ‘GOD’. Not in touch with Gil, but I have lots of his reissues and gave his web address at the end.
I’m friends with him on Facebook and sent him a link. Be interesting to see what he makes of it.
Well, it’s sincerely meant. Then again, he might say ‘you’ve used images from my reissues without you pommie scumbag’.
Hope not – he is a pretty easy going sort of guy and I explained your affection for the music.
Fair enough. The missing word above was, of course, ‘permission’.
Talking of Billy Thorpe, on one of the Fargo season 2 episodes I watched recently I believe they used “Children Of The Sun” over the closing credits., which I really liked.
Not an artist or song that I knew, so where to go next….. ?
Ah, an interesting question. Billy had several distinct careers. ‘Children Of The Sun’ was from his ‘American career’ in the late 70s/early 80s, from a mainstream FM rock album of the same name.
Here’s an example of his first career, as the Aussie Beatles in the 60s:
And, skipping an intermediate phase, here’s an example of his second career, in the early 70s, as an Aussie The Who, or somesuch, with a totally new version of the Aztecs (1969-74):

And here he is in his third career, as a cleaned-up US stadium rocker during the ‘Children Of The Sun’ era:

That’s great Colin. Really
thank you!
