ATM – recording the radio

One of my previous smartphones, a Samsung A13 (which is now a brick) had an FM radio app which had a record facility.

They discontinued the FM radio app on newer Samsungs

so in the absence of built in FM radio app are there any free radio apps where you can record the radio (doesn’t have to be FM, can be internet radio too)

I know I can record whatever’s streaming with Audio Hijack but are there any free options to record anything that’s streaming (Android/Windows/iOS)

ATM-London Rock and Roll Tour

I´m visiting a friend in London this weekend and he’s going to drive us around London rock and roll locations.

We’re planning on going to Abbey Road, maybe Trident Studios too, Heddon Street for the Ziggy shot (though I believe it´s changed now.)

Any other suggestions for lads into 60s/punk/bowie? thanks

ATM – Bluetooth through the stereo

Hi folks,

I’ve been googling this but I’m confused.

I want to play whatever on my phone through my stereo via bluetooth. I have a Marantz amp with the usual RCA inputs.

I don’t know whether I need a Bluetooth adaptor or transmitter or receiver.

Can someone point me in the right direction, thanks

I got a Samsung A13 and it doesn’t seem to have an FM radio app. My old phone had it and it could record it too. Anyone know the name of an app that would give me basic radio which uses the headphones as antenna, all I can find online is internet radio apps, thanks

Test Songs

I was changing a few things around on my hi fi yesterday and to test it was all working properly I needed a CD to play

I chose Young Americans, title track and I realised I usually pick something from the 70s and invariably it’s this or Golden Years or something off The Kick Inside

ATM – Mobile Phone Apps Storage

Hi, just looking for some advice re mobile phones

I have a Huawei Y6 phone, it has 8GB internal storage and I have a 32GB SD card installed.

I’ve set the storage location as the SD card so all my music and photos/videos go onto that but I haven’t been able to put apps onto the SD card, the only one that will go on is Shazam.

This is quite annoying, it seems to be a feature of this phone/manufacturer and I’d like to have a lot more apps at my disposal than I have

Can anyone tell me, is this the same with other Android phones, do apps generally have to go on the phone rather than the SD card, e.g. does anyone have Spotify or Podcast Addict on their SD card, thanks

I’m at the stage now where I probably have enough but I can’t stop snapping up bargains especially cds and I was curious about where I stand in comparison to other Afterworders

I have 485 Lps, 675 7″‘singles, 160 12″ singles 600 cd albums 115 cd singles 40 cassette albums

Recently, at a friend’s funeral someone sang Leonard cohen’s Hallelujah.

Afterwards at the reception my friends and I were discussing the ceremony and somebody remarked about the fact that they had changed the lyrics of hallelujah – omitted some lines, cut some verses.

A few others agreed and had noticed. Yet I, hadn’t noticed at all.

I realised that i hadn’t really tuned into the lyrics at the ceremony, that I hadn’t noticed that the lyrics had been altered and that I probably have never consciously digested the lyrics of hallelujah even though i’ve heard it a fair few times since the mid ’90s.

i realised that at some point for certain artists or possibly for any artist i just don’t tune in to the lyrics, but when i was in my teens i could recite whole albums by the jam or the clash or bowie or whatever.

and I’m trying to ascertain at what point did i stop remembering, – it’s not that i don’t like lyrics, i love them, I write them occasionally but do I care about them – probably not.

What are you going to listen to?

Tonight after the kids are in bed I’m going to walk the dog and listen to Morrissey’s new album on my ipod shuffle. I may have to skip tracks, I may not, we’ll see.

Then when I get home, prompted by an article I read about Chuck D’s new book, I’m going to sit down and listen to Fear of a Black Planet. I bought the LP second hand 25 years ago and I don’t think I’ve ever listened to the whole thing. I’m going to use the magnifying glass on my phone to read the lyrics on the inner sleeve.

That’s the plan anyway. and yourself?

One Album Artist

I love JuJu, the 1981 alubm by Siouxise by the Banshees

My brother bought it that summer and it soundtracked many a board game and jigsaw.

I’ve tried for years to get into other Banshees albums but have never been satisfied to the same extent, I love some of their later singles but I think after 36 years I’m just going to accept that there’s only going to be one Siouxsie album for me

It’s a shame but also a relief

anyone have similar feelings for any artist?

I remember seeing Suede in Dublin in the late ’90s and between the support band and the main act the music they played was side one of Surfer Rosa and side one of Never Mind the Bollocks (maybe one of the sides was before the support act) . Anyway it struck me at the time as a good idea, it really created an atmosphere. I suppose it helped that I’m quite a fan of those two albums.

I hate knowing the plot of a film before I see it, it spoils it somewhat for me

It’s difficult to avoid the plot outline when you’re browsing films to watch.

movie reviews, friends and then trailers and sometimes posters give away too much information

In fact I’d prefer to know nothing about a film before I see it – actors, director, setting -nothing (maybe the year it was made would be ok)

Ideally and I know this is impossible, I would be put in front of a screen knowing nothing about the film and there would be a good chance I’d like it

Am I being unreasonable/unrealistic – does anyone else have a similar view?

Wandering through Spotify lately, I’ve been drawn to longer pieces.

Came across an LP, Perpetual by Ryuichi Sakamoto, its second movement clocks in just under 20 minutes. Also have been enjoying Blackened Cities by Melanie de Biasio which I discovered through the Afterword’s best of 2016.

I’m looking for some more, any suggestions?

Difficult, uneventful, busy, calming – I don’t mind.

New Year Resolutions

Hi All,

Happy new year

I don’t normally bother with New Year resolutions but I’m in the mood for it this year

My resolutions are:

I will write more – letters, journal, poetry – anything really, preferably pen to paper

I will read more and watch less

I will not buy any more music and will sell/donate a quarter of what I have

I will continue to not drink alcohol, off it nearly two years now and it’s no bother so not much of a resolution really, no big drama I wasn’t much of a drinker but I had thirty years of it so felt I had been there done that

Anybody else any resolutions?
