According to Bap’s social media (and I am assuming from Brenda Kennedy), material from his new album of previously unheard songs will be previewed on Ralph McLean’s BBC Radio Ulster programme on Wednesday. The release is coming in 2026 to mark a decade since his passing.

An AW favourite gets its own book, and Grauniad article. It also comes within a whisker of actually using the legendary phrase itself…
Hay Festival with added David Gilmour
The Hay Festival is online and free this year. All you have to do is register for the talks you want to watch. Slots for each are limited, it would seem.
The events are all AW-friendly, obviously, but one of perhaps particular note is on 30th May when Dave “David” Gilmour will be performing with Polly Samson as she talks about her new novel.

A Tribute To Ginger Baker
Venue:
Hammersmith Apollo
Date: 17/02/2020
Firstly, this was a Clapton-curated event so was based exclusively around Ginger’s output between ‘66 and ‘69. For fans of the Graham Bond / Airforce / Baker Gurvitz Army / Fela Kuti versions of the man should move on because there’s nothing for them to see here.
There was quite a ‘special event vibe’ percolating around the crowd outside, then inside the venue. I’ve not been to many standing gigs at Hammersmith (Stray Cats last year, Portishead in 2008), so the chance to join a chilly queue underneath the A4 flyover was a welcome one. An unscientific and probably wholly unrepresentative survey of the accents and Storm-Dennis-travel-horror stories amongst those who had arrived the obligatory three-or-four hours in advance of doors indicates that a lot of transatlantic and European fans had made the pilgrimage and smelled something epic and historic in the air.
The whole event was geared towards raising money for the Leonard Cheshire charity, so some videos about the work it does were run while we waited. We then got a five minute rough cut of Ginger banging on his toms and banging on about his attitude towards drumming, seemingly culled from » Continue Reading.
Todd Alcott’s musical book jackets
I’m assuming I have missed the conversation that must been had in this place about this fellow’s work / Instagram / Etsy shop? It’s right up the AW street.
Bap Kennedy
Really sad news that Bap passed away today.
His tremendous musical talent had a profound effect on me in the late ’80s, and I have treasured his songs ever since.
His new album is due for release later this month on Lonely Street Records, and is available from his website.
A top man. His family deserve to be proud of him.
Gavin Clark article…
Nice article in The Independent about the marvellous Gavin Clark.
Gavin Clark
I wanted to use my / our return to this lovely place to pay tribute to Gavin Clark, who died on Monday.
A beautiful singer and writer, who gave so much joy as part of Sunhouse, Clayhill, UNKLE and the soundtracks to Shane Meadows’ films.
This short film was made by Shane for his best mate back in 2009.
If you’ve not heard his gorgeous voice, get hold of last year’s kind-of-best-of “Beautiful Skeletons”.
I’ll miss him very much.
