This last weeks have brought things to a head for me, because of humidity. The region I live in is basically a geological coastal bowl, surrounded by ridges and high ground. It’s on the border of Dorset and Devon, and weather fronts bringing rain in from the Atlantic across Devon arrive, and meet the very humid Dorset air. It seems to get trapped as a matter of normality. Clouds, almost like a pot lid or a UFO form over us here, bringing the threat of rain and drizzle as more or less a constant. One can usually see on all horizons what I term weatherwise ‘the blue band of freedom’. This murk can be driven out of even five miles north, and back again into again. Most incomers remark on the daily weather/nightly changes in temperature and precipitation, all with a constant background of high levels of humidity, almost chloroform like in the summer. The related health problems re bronchial complaints, asthma, rheumatism etc are well known.
