Even music fans who aren’t fans of Massive Attack seem to appreciate them and when this song popped up on Spotify the other day I thought to myself ‘this might just be the coolest song ever recorded and I think everyone might agree’ The only other contender that came to mind was something by Steely Dan off either Aja or Gaucho, but they are as hated as they are loved so I’m not sure they would get many votes on here. But anyway, enough of my rambling, what do you think? Am I wrong, or could I possibly be right? And if [as I suspect] I am wrong, then what IS the coolest song ever recorded?

Prefab Sprout Re-Issues
I know there is a lot of love for Prefab Sprout here, so some of you will be interested to know that Sony are beginning a re-issue campaign with “remastered vinyl editions of 1984 debut Swoon, along with 1988’s From Langley Park To Memphis, the sumptuous 1990 album Jordan: The Comeback and 1991 best of, A Life Of Surprises.”
CD-based deluxe editions with extra tracks are also expected.
‘Dropping’ on August 30th, they are available to pre-order now.
Cover Aversion
I’m probably wrong, but it occurred to me today that I can’t think of a song that Elton John has covered*
Are there any other musicians who have only released their own stuff?
* I googled it and everything.

Kate Bush Bargain Box Sets
SDE website reporting the lowest prices to date for most of the box sets – CD & vinyl at Amazon. £37 and £35 down from £63 and £60 respectively for sets 1 & 2. Apparently it’s due to competition from HMV, but I was unable to figure out how to buy an actual product to purchase on HMV.com [by anyone, not just Bush] – probably just me being thick.

from the secret ep fish top is man
In honour of this charming story, I have hidden a clue in the title of this post. Those who find the answer shall be rewarded sevenfold
It’s Em[inem]mental
According to a study conducted by Swiss cheesemaker Beat Wampfler and a team of researchers from the Bern University of Arts, while hip-hop made it ‘funky’, cheese made whilst rocking out to Led Zeppelin or relaxed with Mozart had milder zests. Gouda thought it!
Algorithm Signs Record Deal
Mood music App, Endel, has been signed to produce 20 albums this year and has already released 5.
“I’m certain listeners enjoying these new albums will benefit from reduced anxiety and improved mood,” said Kevin Gore, president of Warner Music.
An exciting new dawn for music, or the beginning of the end?
Spotify Freebie
Are you a Spotify Premium Family subscriber? Or, are you toying with becoming one? Spotify are trying to entice new subscribers to it’s family plan by offering a free mini google speaker worth £50 to customers. Unusually, this offer is also open to existing subscribers. I know this works because I’ve just done it and my speaker is on it’s way to me. Click on the link below to go to the relevant page.

Keith Flint
A ‘Breaking News’ banner just popped up on the BBC News website saying that Prodigy member Keith Flint has died, aged 49. No other information available just now.
The Comet Is Coming
No, not a prediction – I’m no hunchback – just something I’m loving right now and think you might too. “The Comet Is Coming are a London-based band who incorporate elements of Jazz, Electronica, Funk and Psychedelic Rock”, and, for once, the blurb is actually spot on.
It’s Valentines Day – Let’s make a Playlist
I know it’s just a made up day by ‘Big Card’ to get us all acting out of character, but surely being loved up, however it occurs is better than Hatin’ – no?
Anyway, lets have your favourite Loved-Up vibes. I’ve started a collaborative playlist, so feel free to add your choons if you so wish, and if you would like to, please add a dedication to the one you love 🙂
Paddy McAloon/Prefab Sprout
An unfortunately slight, but nevertheless interesting video interview with the Sproutmeister can be found on the BBC website. But you don’t need to look for it, just click the link.
Based on what you see here, would you read the rest of this book?
The extract in the first comment is from the newest [unpublished] book by a famous author.
I was excite when I saw that [she/he] has a new book on the way and thought that it’s one to watch out for.
But then I read the ‘sneak peek’
I was disappoint. But am I being too critical? After all, taking lines out of context and judging them is harsh, no?
I welcome your thoughts
[and should you know who wrote the lines, please don’t give it away]
…and in other news, Toxic Masculinity STILL an issue, former activist now travels first class shock, Sport rocked by doping allegations, and why are so many senior citizens enjoying green days?
Amazingly the world continues to exist today, and these are some of the stories I found interesting whilst perusing the internet. Your thoughts are encouraged [links to articles in comments]
This is Good – Share your latest favourite
If you have a song that’s exciting you as we hurtle into 2019, please share it here. I’ll start with this. I wasn’t taken with his breakthrough hit ‘Take Me To Church ‘ although I appreciated his vocal on the track, but this song has hit me hard. I think it’s exceptional.
Friday Fun – A rib-tickling piss take at the expense of Apple
A bit of fun to brighten up a dull and dreary Friday. Although it’s been around for a while, I hadn’t seen this, so maybe you haven’t either. It made me cry tears of joy – and I love Apple
Richard Swift
Sad news today that Richard Swift has died aged just 41. Lots of tributes from musicians he worked with over the years. I have a couple of his albums from many years back, (the song in the video ‘Songs of National Freedom‘ is a family favourite at Lemon Hope House) and his recent collaborations with Damien Jurado on his Maraqopa trilogy and with Dan Auerbach in The Arcs were excellent.
I Need A Couple More Songs About Fishing For A Playlist/Johnny Marmite – It’s The Pick Your Own Post, Post
If you would be so kind, I’m compiling a playlist of songs for a friend and it’s turned into ‘Songs About Fishing’ I currently have two 1. Van Morrison – ‘And It Stoned Me’ & 2. Chas & Dave – ‘Wonder Where He Is Now’. If you could help me out with further suggestions that would be just super!
Or, if you prefer, come up with a clever pun on pop star names, for example, Johnny Marmite [gedditt?] Think you can do better? Go on then
Because I’m Worth It
Atypical Songs
Ryan Adams sounds, for the most part, like Ryan Adams. Ok, he has gone ‘off piste’ many times with his unofficial output, but on record you pretty much know what you’re gonna get and the same is true of most artists. But back in 2001 his band Whiskeytown released their album ‘Pneumonia’. Track nine was a song called ‘Paper Moon’. which is notable for sounding like nothing else in his catalogue, so much so that I would argue that you would be hard pressed to identify the artist if you heard it ‘blind’. Can you think of any other examples like this? Remember that Richard Thompson techno track that closed his last album, or the Manic’s foray into skiffle? Any more?
The Two Album Limit law comes into effect in June – Which ones do you keep?
We’ve all got lots of artists in our collections of whom we have multiple albums. Unfortunately, the ‘Government’ are introducing a law to limit the number of albums one can own by any one artist to just two. Multiple artist detector vans will patrol the country on a 24/7 basis, seeking out lawbreakers who will be rounded up and held at a secret location near Hull. Here they will be subjected to a cruel and unusual punishment of a playlist, on rotation, consisting of ‘Weird Al’ Yankovich, Kevin Keegan and Nickleback, which will be blasted at them, Abu Ghraib style. Light relief will be provided by a local ginger ‘Funster’ who will ‘DJ’ the choons and provide ‘amusing’ quips [of a mostly sexual nature] until such time that the prisoner can take no more [average resistance of 11 minutes expected] No-one wants to have to suffer this punishment, so it’s time to decide – which two albums will you keep? Some artists are easy, having made only one or two albums – The La’s, for example. Others are easy because they only made two albums worth keeping, The Beatles, or Van Morrison, etc. But some are very difficult indeed, having » Continue Reading.
