I’ve started presenting on Celtic Music Radio. Despite the name, presenters can play pretty much what they like. I have a folky show on Tuesdays and on Sundays I have ‘Whatever’ from 6pm to 8pm. Every week is a different theme/artist/genre. Today I’m looking at the glory of 2 Tone. 95FM if you are lucky enough to be in Greater Glasgow and online everywhere else. http://www.celticmusicradio.net/
CD Launch and Foodbank Funraiser
Should you be in or around Glasgow on Wed 7th December, I’m having the launch party for my Clancy/Makem Songbook album that night. All ticket money will go to support foodbanks in the area. No big sell – if you fancy it, or want to know more, give me a shout.

Gavin Paterson & The Clancy Sessions Band – first full gig
04/09/2016
Blackfriars, Bell Street, Glasgow, 9pm. My first full gig with my “Clancy Sessions Band”. The core of the set is my re-workings of songs from the Clancy/Makem songbook – inspired by what Bruce did with his Seeger Sessions. And being a pub gig, we’ll have to keep folk in the pub and drinking, so the set will be filled out with some Neil Young, Steve Earle and whatever else we fancy doing. I have over 1000 – yup – in my repertoire and we’ll be taking requests. If you are in town, feel free to drop in. A decent sized crowd would be nice for the first gig.
Irma Thomas singing for Pete Fountain
Thought some of you might appreciate this one. Irma Thomas singing Precious Lord at the funeral of trad jazz legend, Pete Fountain.
Now that’s soul music.
Dave Edmunds & Nick Lowe
This turned up on my FB feed. It’s a Capitol Radio documentary about the early days Edmunds & Lowe. Includes some demos that I had never heard before. It’s only 22 minutes long so give it a blast. Also features some Springsteen.
Mayday in Moscow
Greetings Comrades. I have just had the great honour of singing The Internationale in Moscow on the 1st of May. Red Square is invitation only on Mayday (yes, I know) so the ordinary folks gather in Sokolniki Park. On a stage that is a cross between Glasgow’s Kelvingrove bandstand and Hollywood Bowl I sang it. Words cannot describe how I felt. (I did manage a sneaky chorus on the Square on the very eve of Mayday though!)
Good thoughts to Little Richard
This lovely piece tells us that Little Richard is pretty much knocking at the gates. No one person invented rock and roll but Little Richard, in Cosimo’s Studio in New Orleans, has a better claim than any.

Dexys new stuff
I doubt anyone here knowns more Dexys than me. I’ve been MD in Dexys Bootleg Runners from day one. I know every quaver and comma 1979 to 1982. My band. Projected Passions is still my favourite gig, ever. But. This is shite. Take the Rowland vocal away and it’s elevator music. Thoughts? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c_7l9X7_RA
Hamish – The Movie
Year: 2016 Director: Robbie Fraser
If you are Scots, you really should know Hamish Henderson. If you are a republican. A socialist. A nationalist (yes, he was). Into history. Poetry. You should know Hamish.
Apart from writing four songs that are part of the Scottish Folk Repertoire, one of which I hope will be our national anthem when the time comes – as it surely will – he took the Italian surrender in WW2 and has a better claim to starting the Edinburgh Fringe than anyone else. The man is a hero.
The film is great too. The archive stuff is superb (Hamish leading the pipes and troops into Rome) and the interviews are very moving. I was in floods at the end. This was the premier, his family were there, the place was packed with auld folkies and auld commies. My type of people.
The film will tour Scotland and other territories and will play on BBC Alba in the Autumn. But you should see it in a cinema.
Scottish Cringe, no more.
Might appeal to people who enjoyed:
Folk song, Scots culture, world history……..
The Clancy/Makem Songbook
Hi folks. I know a few of you have a soft spot for The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem. I’ve spent hours over the summer recording new arrangements of songs from their wonderful catalogue. All instruments, vocals and arrangements by just me. Forty years after learning how to overdub, I’ve put it to good use (I hope).
The recording is almost complete but there is still some post work to be done. I’m hoping for a January release and for a Scottish tour in March April.
I know this isn’t for everyone but if it sounds like your thing, the attached link is to a 15 minute compilation of bits from some of the tracks.
Feel free to comment.

Ripping DVDs
I think this came up on here before but a new house, a new thread.
I want to rip my own – bought and paid for – DVDs to an external hard drive. Using Windows 7 or (still) XP. I want to copy the entire disc – menus/extras etc. I can do movie only but not the whole disc.
I have DVD Fab to rip and Roxio to create the ‘disc image’. But it almost always just copies part of the movie, leaving out the last 10 or 15 minutes.
Suggestions?
