The View have been in the news today after their long-awaited (presumably) comeback show ended in a brawl between the singer and bass player. The Same Jeans-hitmakers have cancelled tonight’s London show, with their future in the balance.

Apologies for the personal nature of this post, but I’m really struggling with money worries at the minute. Not in the ‘struggling to feed myself sense’, and for that I’m grateful. But despite working all my life and having a decent income, I’ve got absolutely nothing to show for it. I lost my home in a divorce and have struggled to claw myself out of debt (currently nearing £20k). My health is poor and I reckon I’ve got 10 good years left, before I have to give up work and surrender myself to the state. I feel pathetic that I’ll have nothing to leave my kids, and all I do is fantasise about one day receiving some sort of windfall that can get me off the merry-go-round.

Has anyone else been in this situation in their mid-forties and been able to turn it around? Or do I just suck it up and be grateful for every day above ground.

I’m not a massive Stereophonics fan, but this song hits home, and the line ‘to get you out of the hole that you dug for yourself’ is one of Kelly Jones’s best.

These quirky scouse 50s throwbacks are probably unknown to most of the massive, but they’ve returned from a 3 year absence with what appears to be a more mainstream widescreen sound.

The online discourse has now developed into a fight for moral equivalence with racist, sexual assault and even the consumption of meat.

They say that redundancy, divorce and moving house are three of the most stressful things that the average person can experience in life. Well, I’m going for the hat-trick, and all within the space of about 9 months. As some of you may recall, I posted a blog last October, detailing my impending redundancy, and asking for advice from people who’d been through it. I was delighted with the response of The Massive, who were invariably supportive, and reassured me that things would work out well in the end, which they did. So, here I am again, experiencing a personal crisis and struggling to find my way in the dark. Divorcees of The Afterword…how was it for you?

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but I’ve long had a fascination about cases of missing people. Not so much the thousands of people who go missing for short periods, but the enduring mysteries, where people just seem to vanish out of thin air.

I think my interest probably began as a teenager, when I was a big fan of the Manic Street Preachers. Richey James walked out of a hotel room on the eve of a promotional trip to the US and has never been seen since.

But aside from the famous cases like Richey, and Madeleine McCann, there are hundreds of other instances such as those of Andrew Gosden or Lee Boxell. Young teenagers who simply disappeared, with nobody knowing whether they’ve met foul play, come to harm, or are living elsewhere under a new identity.

Does anyone else share my fascination for this subject? Have you ever known a missing person?

It seems to be a fact of life in the modern workplace. This is the third time it’s happened to me, but the first time it’s happened when I’ve got two children and a mortgage. The severance package will allow me to get by for a few months whatever happens, and I was actually quite relieved when the redundancy was announced, but now I’ve descended into a despondent state. Partly because it’s tough to feel unwanted after 10 years of good work, and partly out of fear for the future. I didn’t love my job, but I’m sure going to miss the security. If anyone’s got any experience of redundancy, or just wants to cheer me up, I’m all ears.

It’s PC gawn mad? The health & safety brigade sticking its nose in where it’s not wanted and bullying the hard-working British motorist. My old man used to smoke 60 a day. Never did him any harm, god rest his soul. Why aren’t the police out there catching proper villains?

But I was telling my wife about half an hour ago that some of the MAMILS (middle aged men in lycra) I see have their names written on their bikes, and laughing at how terribly naff that is. Then I open Facebook and find a targeted ad for customised name decals. Proper freaked my nut out.

Perhaps it’s because none of us on here are under-25, so we probably got off lightly.

Afterword favourites Sun Kil Moon played the Barbican the other night, as reviewed by Uncut scribe John Mulvey. Things took a sour turn when SKM mainman Mark Kozelek performed an ad-hoc misogynistic ditty about Mulvey’s colleague Laura Snapes, containing some pretty unedifying slurs.

Personally, I love Sun Kil Moon and I’m able to separate the art from the artist, but my opinion of Kozelek has certainly plummeted.

A bakery in County Antrim have been ordered to pay damages totalling £500 after a judge ruled they’d unfairly discriminated against a gay customer, who asked them to produce a cake bearing the slogan ‘Support Gay Marriage’.

The owner of the bakery, a Christian, says his issue was not with the customer, or his sexuality, but with the fact that the slogan supports a campaign he strongly disagrees with.

Is it fair that a company is not allowed to show discretion in such matters? Obviously, refusing to serve a homosexual person is a clear breach of the law, but this is different. Or is it?

Wes Borland, Limp Bizkit’s 6-string virtuoso, recently described his bands’ fanbase as “roided-out, tribal-tattooed, spray-tanned, Jell-O shot-filled bohunks.”

It got me thinking – are there any more examples of artists digging on their own fans?
