I am watching the most recent episode of TOTP 1980 with my wife, the lovely Carol.

The number 1 playing as I type is Geno by DMR. To me, this is their absolute classic, I didnt (& still dont) much care for Come on Eilleen, so this is the one for me. Big brassy sound, sung with conviction, whats not to love?

Anyway, I mentioned to Carol that I remember this song like it was only yesterday, & as I said it, I quickly said – 35 years ago, where has the time gone? To go back from that point, by the same amount of time, it would have been just after VE day & to me, that just doesnt seem possible or right – & of course it is both.

I have vague memories of a thread like this a few years ago. Does everyone have this feeling of time passing by, or am I just being a bit maudlin because today is my 59th birthday & I am feeling the sands running down more acutely than normal?

Went to see the big screen makeover of the BBC TV series that ran for most of the noughties. I really enjoyed the TV series & was delighted to see that a cinema version was on general release.

Several of the cast were from the TV series, so there was an instant familiarity (to me), & chief among them was Colin Firth as Harry Pearce.

The plot was basically find the traitor, & it involved lots of guns, bangs, baddies killing goodies & vice versa. If you think you might like it, then I would say almost certainly that you will.

All in all, a big thumbs up from me.

When I read a post which includes a link, (the most recent being the David Gilmour tour dates link), I am unable to just click on the link to open it, I have said here many times, I am a computer numpty, so I would not be the least bit surprised if I havent selected my unit higgler or whatever.

I only heard of Dry the river a few weeks ago. My friends were big fans & told me they would be good, so the 3 of us made our way to Sheffield Leadmill last night.

First time I had been there & it was/ is the smallest venue I have ever been to. A crowd of 250+ made the place feel jam packed & gave it a great atmosphere. Most of the crowd were aged late teens – mid/ late 20s, but there was a decent sprinkling of older people there. it was a very pleasant, happy, expectant atmosphere.

The support act were a youg 3 piece band called Blaenavon. They played a storming 30 minute warm up set & set the bar high for the headliners.

DTR went on stage & gave a superb 75 minute set & followed it with a 2 song encore, 1 acoustic, almost folky, & the final song was a storming out & out rocker that left the crowd filing out of the venue all with big smiles on our faces.

I was driving, so wasnt drinking alchohol, but my friends enjoyed several (slightly expensive) drinks at the bar served by friendly, helpful » Continue Reading.
