I have just posted on the top 3 concerts thread & was going to add as a sort of PS the worst/ most disappointing concert I have ever been to, but I thought it would maybe deserve a thread of its own.

This band have had a lot of positives on this site of ours, but when I saw Spiritualized at Whitehaven in 2003 ish they were dreadful. I lasted 5 songs then left & the other punters were leaving in droves alongside me. Worst band I have ever seen, Truly pants.

My most disappointing concert was without a shadow of a doubt Bob Dylan at Sheffield arena about 10 years ago.

I had been so looking forward to seeing him, a real bucket list concert, great seats, great sounds but he was awful. Terrible singing, no audience inter reaction, nothing. Such a let down.

About eleven years ago I saw a tribute Led Zep band in Carlisle, they tried really hard to look like the young(er) Led Zep which they sort of achieved in a sub ‘Stars in your eyes’ way.

Musically they were pants.

Fast forward to saturday just gone. The show started with ancient BBC news footage, the the band came on.

Looking nothing like LZ, musically they were superb, to my (tin & untutored) ears they were note perfect & utterly brilliant.

It is so hard to pick highlights as the whole show was wonderful, but for me, the battle of evermore, Kashmir & Black dog stood out (only just, it really was that good).

There were plenty of people in the audience older than me (I am 62) but quite a lot of 20/30 somethings & one an had 4 lads with him & they looked like early teens.

I did not see anyone leave without a big stupid grin on their faces.

Fabulous night out, cannot recommend them highly enough.

I belong to several ex Royal Navy groups on facebook & I came across this joke the other day.

A Royal Navy Chief Petty Officer is sent to an army barracks to do a course. Being a PO, he is accommodated in the Warrant Officers & Sergeants mess.

He goes down to breakfast on his first morning & the only person in the dining room is a stern looking Regimental Sergeant Major who is sat down to his breakfast with his newspaper opened up on the table to his right, & his peaked cap on the table to his left.

The CPO gets his breakfast & sits opposite him & asks him to pass the salt, the RSM looks up at him & points to his cap before carrying on with his breakfast.

The CPO sits puzzled & after about 30 seconds asks him again to pass the salt, & once more the RSM silently stares at him while pointing to his hat.

The CPO then asks in a slightly louder voice for him to pass the salt.

The RSM stands up & says in an angry voice “In the army, if a man has his cap on the table » Continue Reading.

As a sort of continuation/ tangent of the two album thread of a couple of weeks ago, I am asking you to list two songs from a band/artist that could sum up their career.

Now obviously this will have to police itself (ie the Police & Stink can be listed seperately, as can Wings & the Fabs – common sense please).

I was in a local charity shop today & the manager was showing a customer a mint, 1967 copy of Sergeant Pepper on vinyl, immaculate condition with all the inserts. The manager had gone on E bay to get an idea of the price & told a customer that she was going to price it up at £20.

To me (& I would be the first to say that I am a ‘new vinyl’ denier), this seems a bargain.

There was also a (what looked new to me) a mint copy of RAM.

Should I be legging it back tomorrow & buy these in the hope of making some money via E bay, or walk away smelling a rat?

So, his lordship has taken the shilling from the Sunday Mirror & is busy telling us that he disagreed with the war/invasion in Iraq.

Fancy that, just as the report comes out that gives his old boss/mucker/comrade a severe kicking he gets an attack of conscience & “It wasn’t me guv, honest, a big boy did it then ran away”

To me that makes him look far worse than Blair. Robin Cook showed how to behave if you serve in cabinet but disagree with government policy. I believe that all who remained in the cabinet at the time of the invasion were giving tacit approval.

I believe Lord Prescott to be someone I would cross the street to avoid & I don’t think he is fit to clean Tony Blair’s shoes.

I unashamedly voted remain, & am extremely disappointed at the result. I have read with interest various articles, reports, AW posts & so on.

So, FWIIW, I am going to give my view on a school of thought that seem to be gaining popularity.

Parliament have enough MPs in the remain camp that they can just vote to ignore the referendum result as it was not legally binding & the leave camp only won by a small majority – talk about a political suicide note.

The winning margin was small, but the rules set out that a simple majority was all that was needed. I genuinely believe that any politician who tries to move the goalposts now will (rightfully IMHO) get slaughtered at the next election.

I cannot believe I am the only person who thinks this. My overriding emotion is disbelief. If remain had won, what would remain be saying to the leavers then?

Remain lost, leave won, get used to it. (Again I remind you, I voted remain).

Am I the only person here who thinks the BBC’s coverage of the Glastonbury festival is decidedly lacking this year?

A bit of a query. I am considering getting one of these Carlos Fandango pod style coffee makers & am leaning towards the Nespresso (No particular reason, probably drawn in by advertising).

My nearest supermarket is ASDA, & they do not stock replacement pods for nespresso but do for a couple of other types (sorry, dont remember the exact names).

My question is 2 fold, firstly, are these devices any good? & secondly, are the pods from other makes compatible with Nespresso machines?

Please be gentle with me. I got a message from apple on my i phone this morning suggesting I allow updates, I clicked yes (or whatever form of words the used – I don’t remember the exact words).

So far so good (it was something I have done before so I was not the least bit concerned). I went away, had a brew & went back to my phone to check on progress. All done, all I had to do was log on.

Where is my apple password? In the notebook on my I phone – yes, I really am that much of a numpty.

So, what do I do? I refuse to believe that I I am the first (or last) person to do this, so I am looking for suggestions as to how to sort it out – is it worth taking it into the local branch of Vodafone for instance?

A recent meeting of the ‘elite’ clubs in English football has raised the prospect (again) of a European football ‘super league’.

This would (to me), be a case of the ‘big clubs’ pulling the ladder up behind them & waving 2 fingers at those left behind. I believe that a proposal from some of the bigger European clubs would be automatic entry to the Champions league based on nothing more than a clubs history as opposed to present circumstances, (but strange that Nottingham Forest & Aston Villa – 2 clubs that have won the European cup more times than Arsenal or Manchester city don’t seem to breathe this rarified air).

I understand the case for it goes along the lines of “We are the clubs that have raised the profile & enriched this tournament, we deserve & demand permanent entry”.

Personally, & FWIIW, I understand this position, but believe it to be wrong. I think it is greed pure & simple.

At one of our previous homes, we had a thread about football & I opined that, to me, & generally speaking, the group stages of the champions league were becoming more & more like glorified friendlies.
