The Courettes – Soul of the . . Fabulous Courettes

What does it sound like?:

At my age, It is great to discover a new group, and suddenly become a little obessed. Even better if they have a back catalogue

The Courettes are the marriage between a Dane (Martin Thorsen) and Brazilian (Flavia Couri) over their shared love of 60s music. The obvious comparison is the White Stripes, but switched. She plays the guitar and sings while he drums and adds occasional support vocals.

I only discovered them as they played my home town, a relativly rare event. They seem to have forged their reputation through regular touring with energetic shows. Explosive is the description from their PR and it was a great night out

This fourth album, moves on from the Spector influenced “Back in Mono” There are more variety of instruments and wider 1960s styles However the old fans will be still happy with the grarage sound of the opener – You Woo Me

The last album saw a classic girl group tribute to Ringo. However now Flavia has moved on to Charlie Watts. Rolling Stones songs are name checked and there is a typical spoken part “sorry Richard. . “

Happy 60th birthday to Aimee Mann

I am a little surprised that she is that old, but then she was already 33 by the time of her first solo album ()the wonderful “Whatever”), as she had been in ‘Til Tuesday before.

Such a great artist and writer. “And when they light up our town I just think / What a waste of gunpowder and sky” is one of my favourite lyrics.

Here is here most recent recording – a snippet of Leonard Cohen’s Avalanche, used as the theme music for the documentary series “I’ll Be Gone In the Dark”. Apparently she recorded the whole song, so hopefully it will be released soon.

Hi,

I reviewed my favourite 102 songs on a blog during my shielded lockdown, and now converted it to a book.

The Kindle (Ebook) version is now free for the next 4 days on all Amazon sites. I would appreciate any downloads and reviews.

Hopefully there are many Afterword-friendly artists (The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Richard Thompson, Jason Isbell, Kirsty MacColl, Kathleen Edwards, Leonard Cohe, R.E.M., etc) contained.

Advertising on the Internet

So after publishing the book of my blog on Amazon, I sat back and waited for the sales to flood in, and nothing happened. Initially I had thought I would happy with just publishing a book. But now I am thinking it would be nice to have a few sales, and a few people reading, as I did make an effort to write it.

So I am looking at the various advertising options – Amazon marketing, google or Youtube, etc.

Anyone had any experiences of Internet advertising they would like to share ? My initial research suggests the feedback is mixed.

Print your book

I have been using my shielded quarantine to write a daily blog about my favourite songs. Not really done any writing before, but it helped me fill my time and gives some sense of achievement.

I am now stopping at song 101 (returning to work soon), but I am interested in printing them in book form, as a souvenir for myself or gift for my supportive family and friends. Probably about 20 copies.

Any one had any experience of using the print on demand websites in the UK ? Any useful feedback ?
