Solid Sound Festival 2015

Same weekend as Glastonbury. The 4th Solid Sound Festival in beautiful North Adams in the berkshires of Massachusetts. It is a Wilco curated thing (every second year) containing plenty of live music, comedy, “events”, wonderful specially brewed beer etc. Venue is Mass MOCA, an art gallery set in a number of former warehouses (a bit like Saltaire), with stages inside, in courtyards and in “Joe’s Field” for the big capacity stuff.

As a longstanding Wilco fan it seemed to be unmissable, the best live band on the planet over 3 days in a beautiful setting for $120? A no brainer.

We drove down from Ottawa on the Friday, a long and eventful drive. First my friend forgot his passport, but was still amazingly let into the USA by showing his driving licence and giving his name and place of birth, secondly we passed a large number of police with big weapons drawn (later learned an escaped convict had been shot dead in the area), and then we encountered an overturned car on the highway, we stopped to help and thankfully a woman with two very small children had made it out » Continue Reading.

So cleay there is no evidence he has done something wrong and the jingoistic UK press will reinforce that whenever they can.

If some dodgy foreigner fails a drug test this is hammered home to us at every opportunity, people like Christina Ohuruogu are given the benefit of the doubt.

Mo Farah went from a fairly run of the mill athlete to the best in the world while being coached by Salazar. A man who appears now to gave lied when asked about being the coach of a previous drug cheat (Mary Decker), also accused of helping Mo’s training partner and close friend dope since he was a teenager.

Smells a bit to me, and this sport is rotten to the core. I trust no one.

Record Store Day – What did you get?

I strolled into the Record Centre in Ottawa’s up and coming Hintonburg area at around 9.45. Was busy, but not too crazy. Picked up Manics Holy Bible picture disc, The Dame’s Changes pic disc (single) and a double sided Dark Globe purple vinyl single with Syd B on one side and REM on the other. A non RSD specific purchase was Tour de France double LP. Drew a blank on a Zombies LP and a Bob Dylan/The Band release was too expensive.

Followed that with an awesome doughnut at SuzyQ’s (possibly the best I ever had) and a good coffee. In both places I was asked how my RSD was going “Very well, thanks”.

Greatest live album of all time?

Released 2 days ago as a download, Bruce Springsteen and the E St Band Live in Nassau, New Years Eve 1980, 3hrs40min worth. Saw them in UK 5 months later, still the best show I ever saw.

5:2 Diet

Just over a year ago we had a discussion about this diet. Obviously I can’t reference that post, but I was skeptical at the time. Some were very positive about it and I have 3 questions for you:

1. How long were you (have you been) on this diet? 2. What is/was your weight loss? 3. If you have stopped, how much weight have you put on since?
