In the late seventies, I went to plenty of gigs in the North West where someone would randomly shout out “Albatross”. Was this noted all over the UK or was it a Manchester or Lancashire thing to call out the name of Peter Green’s ‘Pious Bird Of Good Omen’. Were there other such pre gig “heckles”?
Memorable 20th Century gigs: “The internet says No”.
Do you remember any great gigs from the 1980s and 90s that you can’t trace via the world wide web? Do you ever get the feeling you’ve imagined a gig? I’ve tried “Setlist FM” and other archive artist sites. Can you recall any of the following: Steve Winwood at Lancaster University? A Festival at, or near, Nostell Priory, Wakefield featuring Tom Robinson and George Hamilton IV; a year or two after the 1982 Theakston’s free Jethro Tull, Lindisfarne, Marillion festival. Chick Corea at Manchester Free Trade Hall? Grandmaster Flash, Melle Mel and the Furious Five at Lancaster Sugar House, following their hit “White Lines”?
Riffs borrowed from other songs or tunes (but not samples).
Listening to the early Pat Metheny Group albums, I noticed a very familiar riff at 2 and a half minutes in to the title track of American Garage. Is this a tribute to the Beatles or a coincidence? Is anyone familiar with any similar short tributes?

Unavailable albums (not a RSD post)
It is easy on t’internet to find out about total UK, US or World sales of ‘product’ released on vinyl and CD. However, what I would like to know is how many albums have never been released on CD and, indeed, how many albums have never been released/re-released on vinyl? Examples of albums that have never been released in one format or another would be most welcome. I can’t e.g. locate an official CD release of Soft Machine’s “Land of Cockayne” or Kevin Coyne’s “Beautiful Extremes etc”, originally on Cherry Red.
60 tomorrow…
I had over the years assumed I was of average age for an Afterworder!
As I reach a slightly cranky 60 tomorrow, am I a youthful but occasional contributor or just too old to rock’n’roll.
Though a fan of the 1970’s Tull, I am listening today to those bangin’ toons from Leftfield’s first album. Who am I trying to kid? Time for a cocoa and a bit of Josh Rouse!

“Bootleg” recordings from 1973 onwards on CD in HMV
Following on from the post on here late last year; I noticed that my local dealer and HMV in York have loads of CDs of pre DSOTM live gigs (many of which I had on bootleg cassettes 30 years ago. I wondered about the 50 year copyright explanation; but that does not explain CDs from Genesis’s Lamb tour or Supertramp post 1973 boots? Perhaps copyright holders are getting ahead of themselves? Can the massive elucidate? Has anyone got any strong recommendations?
‘Money’s Too Tight To Mention’ but could you help…
I know that ‘Money’s Too Tight To Mention’ but could some of you sponsor my 6.5 mile walk at Crosby in aid of Parkinson’s UK. Although I have had PD and arthritis for 4 years now, with a fair wind, I should be able to complete this walk.
Does anyone feel like they have seen the new album cover by Lorde before?
ATM Does anyone feel like they have seen the new album cover by Lorde before? Like 1970?
Who wrote and sang…..?
“Take my advice; don’t listen to me”
Anyone know who wrote and/or sang this line?
No Voting necessary – Your Favourite “free” CD
Essential Freebies from Word, Uncut, Mojo and Q. I’m not sure if we have been here before? You may have or recall some great covermount CDs that stand out from the mire? For me, these were some excellent albums in their own right:-

(Sounds like an oxymoron).

1980 to 1999 The Afterword Favourite Albums – Hurrah!!
Dai’s Rules still apply:
1) Post 10 albums ONLY 2) Place them in order 1 to 10. Number 1 will be allocated 10 points down to 1 pt in 10th place. 3) If you post more than 10 only the first 10 will be counted. 4) If you don’t post a preference in the 10 then each will be allocated 5 pts 5) Post exactly like this : Number – Album – Artist e.g. 1 – Dare – The Human League Use proper names not The Fabs or HJHM etc If you don’t your choice may not be counted.
1990 or 1980 to the present The Afterword Favourite Albums – I volunteer
Following the great efforts of @Dai and his and the suggestion from @Feedback_File – I would be delighted to compile an alternative list (don’t we all love lists) of our favourite albums from either 1980 or 1990 up to the present day. This should be a far more interesting list than one full of the Beatles, Dylan and Joni.
So can any of us think of our favourites from a time AFTER we were born or in some cases AFTER leaving education – I was only 4 when the Beatles (white album) was released.
#1 – Do we start from 1980 or 1990 – VOTE NOW! #2 – Once it is clear what preference we have, can we think, think again and… #3 – Can we then use Dai’s rulebook for presenting our Top Ten of the last 30 or 40 years?
Ant Phillips anyone – Alert!!
Fans of early Genesis may wish to be alerted to:- 3 or 4 of the fairly recent box set reissues of Anthony Phillips’ albums appear to be available at £9.99 in FLAC at 7Digital (other formats are available).
Alert over…

Hi Muzo fans
I am hoping to raise £100+ for Parkinson’s UK as I have been diagnosed with the disease, at the same age as my (deceased) father had his diagnosis. I know exercise is one of the best things for PD and so I am entering a sponsored walk (a mere 7.5 miles – easy on a good day, not so otherwise). Any donation, however small, will be much appreciated! The walk is around Pennington Flash near Leigh in what was the county of Lancashire. Yours, lost in music.. GDPR anyone
Hi Afterworders, Are any of you trying to get to grips with the impact of GDBR the new Data Protection legislation? I suppose this lovely site is classed as a Social Media site. I hope none of your profiles ever become the subject of a data protection issue (unlikely I know). I won’t be sharing where I work however…. C42Blue

Peter Green – recommendations
I really liked early F.Mac, but the only Peter Green solo effort I have is “In The Skies” which I love – what should I seek out next?
3 Word reviews- has this been done here before?
I’ve bought a number of cheap used cds recently and thought to share my very brief thoughts.
Richard Hawley – Richard Hawley; First timeless classic
Bruce Hornsby – The Way It Is : Pleasant “Baywatch” backing
The Strands – The Magical World Of.. : Delightful, poetic psychedelia
St Vincent – St Vincent : Excellent quirky original
any more?

Afterworder in Preston
I can’t be the only one on here living in Preston (England) can I?
I ask this because both Colin H’s tome on John McLaughlin and the recent book by Donald Fagen (as recommended here) have both turned up at my local library!
Happy Days!
