This is for @corganiser who asked `Can we have a new update which defines the timezone that you are applying to the voting cut-off?` which I didn`t take seriously but you never know. The time zone is G.M.T. and as we all know the time & date is midnight 11th January 2017.
Voting will end for this poll at midnight on Wednesday 11th January. I hope to post the results by 01:00 on Thursday 12th January.
Up to now over 90 people have voted for their favourites or what they consider to be the best David Bowie STUDIO albums. If anyone still wishes to take part you can place your selections in the comments to this Blog. You can vote for up to 5 albums numbering them in order of preference, 5 points for the first down to one point for the fifth OR you can select up to 5 albums in no particular order, each will receive 3 points. NO Live albums, Compilations or Tin Machine albums please.
Thanks to those of you who have taken part up to now.
Due to the fantastic response to the David Bowie Greatest Studio Album Poll, over 70 of you have voted, thank you, may I suggest that I bring the closing date forward.
Provided there is no opposition I will close the voting on Wednesday, January 11th (mid-night).
If anyone still wishes to vote, please pick your 5 favourite David Bowie STUDIO Albums, no Live or Compilation albums. Number 1-5 (5 points 1st choice to 1 point 5th choice) or if you can`t prioritise, pick up to 5 albums, (3 points each).
You can place your votes in the comments to this thread.
We`re going to a concert – Big Big Train on Friday 29 September 2017 at the Cadogan Hall.
We`ll be coming from the NW earlier in the day so can anyone give reccomendations on hotels that won`t cost a fortune. I`ve just checked Google Maps and see the hall is situated in a posh part of Londom so using the underground will be a must. Tips on that if possible.
Thanks in advance.
David Robert Jones would have been 70 this coming Sunday, January 8th. So I think it`s time for a poll to find what the AfterWorders reckon are Bowie`s greatest/favourite STUDIO albums. There was a lot of feeling that `Black★Star`, the last studio album was The Great Man`s best.
So what do you think*?
Pick your FIVE choices numbered 1-5. Only your first 5 choices will be accepted. The scoring will be 5 points for your first numbered choice down to 1 point for fifth. If you fail to number your choices, the first 5 will be awarded 3 points each, the same applies for any entries with less than 5 choices not given preference.
Only STUDIO albums, no box sets, live albums or compilations allowed.
*i am very interested where `Black★Star` figures overall in D.B.`s superb catalogue, if you do not wish to participate, that is fine. I think we have posted our favourite D.B. albums before but not in a poll such as this. Let the thingy begin….
A 4 CD `Highlights` set;
Alex Harvey – The Last Of The Teenage Idols Box set
Is available on Amazon for (currently) £30,48, not really a bargain at that price is it? It may go down before the release date of February 24th BUT. and this is the clincher, you get all 217 tracks from the 14 CD `The Last Of The Teenage Idols` Box Set on Autorip.
Click on the link if you`re interested, if not rip the thread to bits as is the AW tradition.
I came across this while fannying around on`t `net. A French Beatles fan is selling his collection of 15,000 items of Beatles albums and memorabilia to fund his retirement.
I always thought that The Fab Four weren`t that big in France, I may be right, I may be wrong. I`m not that bothered really. As The HJH would say A Happy Chrimbo to you all, Peace & Love, The Baron.
I apologise to @blue-boy for starting a poll on `Your best reissues, live albums, other stuff not allowed in the new release poll…` I did not realise that this poll had been started. I did look if anyone had posted a similar Blog but I obviously missed it. I have contacted Admin asking them to remove my Blog and place Blue Boy`s at the top of the page or near to the top so we can all see it. To the others who commented on my `imposter blog`, thank you for your comments and the time you donated to posting them.
This poll is for your favourite re-issues of 2016. The rules are simple; you can vote for up to 10 of your choices which must be pre-2016. Example Kate Bush`s `Before The Dawn` qualifies as does Dylan`s `66 re-issues. Scoring is simple 10 points for your first choice down to 1 for your tenth choice. If you select less than 10 your first choice gets 10, second choice 9 and so on. Any disagreements will no doubt be settled in the usual AW way, which is as we all know, b@ll@cks.
Polling ends Saturday December 31st at 23.59. Admin could you keep this Blog near the top of the page please.
Sorry to cause you hastle @tiggerlion and I apologise in advance.
BUT why is Bob Dylan`s `66 Tour Box Set not allowed in the Best Album Of 2016? Kate`s `ATD` is allowed and BD`s recordings are new to my ears, well officially. That also applies to `ATD`.
I`m sure Bob isn`t a threat to `Black Star` especially with the scoring guaranteeing a fixed result. I`m only kidding tiggs : ))
But let`s have some opinion.
In a recent `Best Thing I`ve Heard All Year` blog conducted by the esteemed `el hombre malo` The Monkees `Good Times` album received 33% more votes than David Bowies `Black Star`. `Black Star` was widely expected to take 99.9% of the votes. This was The Monkees first album in a gazillion years and had rave reviews from erm, all ravers and music pundits. The album (Good Times) also received 66% more votes than all other choices. @tiggerlion was last seen scrutinising el hombre`s blog shouting “I don`t bloody believe it”. Good times!
Frank Zappa? Is he any good? Well I do know he is highly regarded by some around here but I never really got him. I was always intrigued by the man, I have always known that he was associated with quality music and musicians. For 50 years I have borrowed albums from (more enlightened?) friends and returned them no more than a day or two later saying thanks but no thanks. Now with my new found love of Prog and Jazz I reckon I may be more receptive to Frank. I don`t wish to borrow those albums again, I like to own physical product.
What can my fellow AW`s recommend, now I know that FZ has a massive catalogue of albums, can you recommend 5 albums, only 5 because that`s as many as I wish to own. Wht 5? Because I`m a bloody nut case and I can get to involved with certain artistes, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Pink f%@kin` Floyd.
LPs or `vinyls` (for you hipsters out there), outsell `digital album downlaods` for the first time since, erm, well records (geddit) began.
So what have you got to say about that you `Digital Dinosaurs`?
This popular Blog is normally at the top of the `Blog` page for at least 10-14 days. I`m sure that this is a rare Admin error and not the pandering to some Moaning Minnies.
If so Bring It Back Now!
Please. ; ))
Inspired by Kaisfatdad`s Blog `Äckligt!!`on which I was going to post if Trump* makes President I`m going back working in the coalmines and doing a 4-8 year shift!. This got me wondering, what drastic action would fellow Afterworders take should something they dread happen to them?
I have a spare ticket for Dawes at The RNCM, Manchester this Thursday and it`s FREE courtesy of Stevet of this parish and me because I have made the decision to give his ticket for free because the poor soul can`t make it.
Message me if you would like it and we`ll take it from there, obviously first come…
I am no longer `andyourbirdcansing`. I have returned to being `Baron Harkonnen`. I am a Gemini and err, maybe mentally insane, depending on who you talk to. Anyone posting in my former identity is an imposter and criminally insane.
Now to set about those reprobates who have been insulting Mr. Young.
Just wonderin` ; ))
The Rolling Stones long awaited blues album is out early December.
Get yer orders in via the link provided if you have any dosh left after the Mono Box and the live in (Havana Moon) gubbins.
The train I was waiting for yesterday, into Liverpool, was cancelled, next one in 30 minutes. This is only a small station with a small shelter and two benches. Nothing much close by but I remember a small cafe, a coffee would be good. Got there, shut, but aha! The local bookie, free coffee and I can have one of my irregular bets on the football. Which I did 2 x 4 result accumulator.
So why am I telling you this, this morning I can`t find my betting slips (the Liverpool trip was a long day`s drink with friends). So my question is this can I go to the bookie and if I have details of my bets in my head, can I claim my winnings? One of my forecasts was wrong (Portsmouth at home if you ask) but I`m sure that I was correct with the rest. Thanks for any advise.
“The 1966 Live Recordings” box set will contain 36 CDs presenting all of the available recordings from Bob Dylan’s momentous 1966 tour. You will have already read in ISIS magazine (issue 187) that all of the European shows (apart from the opening night in Copenhagen) were captured either whole or in part by Dylan’s soundman Richard Alderson on a Nagra reel-to-reel recorder. All of these ‘professionally recorded shows plus the available audience recordings from Down Under will be included in the upcoming box. Some of the audience recordings are said to be quite poor quality.”
I`d better get saving `cos my order is in! Am I mad? Maybe but I`ve been waiting for something like this forever. So jest at me, throw your insults, I don`t care `cos I`m certainly happier than you!
And a great price, click on the link.
Well it looks like St. Jeremy is going to win his second election, he`d better savour the result because it will be most certainly be the last election he will ever win.
Don`t get me wrong, in the `70`s in the `74 election that Heath had called due to the 3 day week and no telly after 10pm, early kick off`s for the footy, well not all were the cause for him to spit out the dummy. It was us the Mine Workers, not yet The Enemy Within, who were part of the cause. Anyhow during our 2nd strike of the `70`s we went canvassing for the Labour Party (I was then a paid up member) in Chorley, we increased the Tory majority by over 2,000! That bit of rambling was to get out my Socialist leanings, so I take no joy in believing that Jeremy Corbyn will preside in the break up of the Labour Party. He is a nice man, a man I hold responsible for Brexit`s success, a man with an ego the size of Tump`s wallett and a failure.
Those were my thoughts, yours?
What does it sound like?:
First, I`m not reviewing this because Bargepole sent me a freebie. I bought the album on Amazon for £9.99 (2xLP & CD), I call that a good deal, Barge asked for a volunteer and I err, volunteered. By the time I post this I will have listened to the album 9-10 times. This is my first review so please don`t expect the eloquence of tiggs, buffoonery yes, lots. Previously I owned one LP and one CD (a strange but excellent mix of electronica/Americana – the CD) by Devin Townsend so I ain`t no expert. (I`m now going to message Bargepole on how to post a picture of `Transcendence`.) So let`s have a bit of background on Devin; Devin Garret Townsend (born May 5, 1972) is a Canadian musician, songwriter and record producer, thanks Wiki. He`s formed bands named `Strapping Young Lad` (1997ish), hmm, that`s it because he formed the Devin Townsend Band at the same time as SYL were still active (2002). They both existed until 2007 when Devin decided he wanted a rest, for two years! Well he didn`t decide to rest for two years, that`s how long his rest lasted. Devin then » Continue Reading.
I came across this Prog site `A Website For The Prog Minded` looks interesting, obviously if you ain`t into the greatest genre after Ameicana you won`t bother clicking on the link below, toodle pip.
Yes I know we have had a link to the late Mr Buckley`s musical tastes, but what struck me was the invitation to `Dive into Jeff Buckley’s Personal record Collection!` by Sony in a email sent to me today and many others I presume. Considering the cause of JB`s death I reckon it was a bit ill-considered.
