Radiohead have just announced their 2027 concerts and will be playing Australia in May and Japan in early June (I believe they are doing about 20 concerts per continent each year).
A band that I have never seen live and would like to (I’ve seen Thom Yorke solo).
So, they will not be stopping off in Singapore and so I’m thinking whether to head off to either Oz or Japan to catch the concert and combine with a short holiday. Both are about a 7 hr flight (5hr if I go to Perth) and both are places we love and have visited many times before.
There is a pretty convoluted ticket application process – I have registered for Australia and results are out by Friday, which apparently gives me the chance of trying to buy tickets. The Japan application appears to be a lottery that runs through Sept, but I need to add my credit card which will be charged if I am successful.
It may be a moot point by Friday if I am unsuccessful for Oz, but if I am, I will need to decide on which one. I have been to concerts in Perth before (AC/DC) but never in Japan – I assume its all very easy and straightforward, but I know a few on here live / have lived there and so any advice ? In terms of audience, would there but a discernible difference etc etc ?
First world problems I know and I’m sure many are going to come back with say Radiohead are overrated, save your money and go and see Jedward instead etc etc.

I live in Brisbane and have registered for tickets for Sydney and Melbourne. My preference is Melbourne, as I have spent less time there and wouldn’t mind a bit of a look around. I don’t think there would be any real difference in terms of the concert experience. I presume Perth is closest?
Yep – Perth would be a bit closer (5hr flight vs 7hr flight), but if we are extending for a short holiday then it probably doesn’t make that much difference. It will probably come down to whether I want to go Margaret River for wine or Tasmania for whisky…….
In the concerts last year they played multiple dates in each city and they had something like a “Set A” and a “Set B” on alternate nights, I think there were about 6 or 7 changes between them. However which set you will get is pot luck. To get most of what they are playing go to 2 consecutive shows in the same city, however I would imagine that is pretty much impossible though. I was happy with the setlist that I got.

Well I got an email saying I was successful in getting an “unlock code” for Perth – which is no guarantee of getting a ticket, just allows me to try.
So now I have to decide whether to go with Perth or prefer the risk of trying for Japan. Dates actually work better for us with Japan, but I really don’t know if I will be able to get tickets…..
Modern life really is rubbish.
I think it’s one of the better Blur albums
Rod Laver Arena for Melbourne. Big venue as anyone who has watched the aust tennis open would know.
Decent sound etc
I assume Japan demand would be higher??? Sheer population size.
Personally, I’d do Perth and then throw in a trip to Freo or Margaret River area.
In case anyone is interested, I decided to risk Japan as the timing works better for us. Just got the update that I was successful in getting tickets, so Radiohead on 9th June 2027 in Tokyo here we come.
Congratulations! Am sure it will be amazing, presumably with the same incredible stage set they used last year “in the round”
Yep, its the same setup of the stage in the round.
Looking forward to it – only 249 sleeps until the concert
