I don’t think this is a site problem really but I just wondered if Anyone had come across this before?
I can access every site in the world on my PC EXCEPT theafterword.co.uk in my house, if I access the site via WiFi on my phone it times out – switch to 3g and it loads perfectly, so the issue is either my connection (its the same on my wife’s PC so its not specifically my machine) The PC’s are Ethernet connected, by the way, and run Windows 10.
Just wondered if you’d ever heard of this? I see myself as a bit of geek but I’ve never seen this before. I’ve reset my router, flushed the DNS cache, cleared cookies and the cache in Chrome and even set my hosts file back to the default – all to no avail. It’s not just Chrome, either, in case anyone thinks it’s a browser problem.
I’ve run out of ideas. And so did the nice man from Sky. If anyone has any clue at all it would save me a lot of grief!!

I know you say it’s timing out but could it be a problem with the dns server you’re using? Try sticking the google dns server ip addresses into your router and see if you see any difference.
Also, when you say you’ve reset your router, do you mean reset to factory settings or have you just power recycled it? If you’ve not totally reset it, is it possible you’ve accidentally added the ip address of the afterword site to a list that gets blocked automatically. Try just logging into your router and browsing around to see if you’ve done anything you shouldn’t have done.

Thanks for the thoughts. The problem is definitely somewhere within my router/connection because I’ve just tried connecting via Wi-Fi at Costa and it’s straight through as you would expect. I’ve been through all the Router settings that Sky allow you to have a look at and certainly nothing’s there that would be obviously blocking this particular IP address so I’ll just have to keep digging or hope that Sky come up with an answer.
I’ll try using Google DNS at the router level as well – when I reset the Router it was a full factory reset so it wasn’t that and that also suggests that the problem isnt the Router directly blocking this IP

Perhaps your significant other has committed an act of sabotage.

Just in case this happens to anyone else, I finally got connected normally again. In the end I had to unplug my router and leave it off for an hour – apparently a factory reset doesn’t necessarily force a new IP address. Somehow my IP address must have got blocked somewhere in the the big interpipe.

strange how a certain time is required

It’s done like that so that you keep the same IP address for a long time even if you have a short power outage. It would be a bit of a pain if that wasn’t the case, especially for those of us that access our home equipment from outside the home. I’m actually surprised that an hour was long enough to reset it.
