I’m slightly bewildered by the sheer number of VPN apps available and reviews all seem to be very mixed for most of them. I mainly want to be able to view Netflix, Sky Go and iPlayer when abroad either on my iPad or using airplay to an apple tv device.
Is anyone using a VPN app on an iPad that can give some advice on how well it works, how easy is it to set up and whether the free ones are any good (or really free?).
Thanks.
I pay for StreamVia and use it on laptops and ipad. Works fine. Pain to set up, but simple after that. Probably just as good out there for free/cheap but at a fiver a month I’ve not got round to looking – that and being put off by having to set up another one.
Not sure about their iPad support but I’ve been really impressed with Astrill.
Use it with my Mac Mini. Seamless transitions between locations and superfast. It’s a paid service but well worth it. Before that I was with ExpressVPN which was about the same price and utterly bobbins. I think Astrill give you 7 days free trial so best to try and see how it works for you.
I use My Private Network, which sounds dodgy but works very well, connecting via software called Tunnelblick.
Unfortunately iPlayer on my iPad needs upgrading and no longer works. Can’t update via Oz iTunes store for obvious reasons, and when I was in the UK and tried to log on to the UK store it kept sending me back to Oz. Tried to set up a new account just to upgrade, but like an idiot I changed the billing address on all my cards to Australia. So no go…verb sap.
You can set up a UK iTunes account without a credit card. Not sure how but there’s probably a bunch of guides on the internet if you google it.
Been using Tunnelbear on the iPad for about a year. 1.5GB free a month.
Enough for my needs and always connects to the UK access point 100%.
Iv’e been using My Expat Network for about 3 years or so as i spend most of my days working overseas – it’s a paid service ( you get a choice of devices to set it up on ), but it’s easy to set up & works very well.
If you use several Apple devices Cloak is not a bad option.
