Hi all.
I need help tracking down a Rolling Stones album I bought in the 70s which sadly I no longer have.
It was a budget release. Might even have been on MFP.
I recall it had a dodgy very fast live version of Satisfaction which is best forgotten.
There were, however two really good tracks. Love In Vain and Fortune Teller.
I realise I could find these songs on Spotify but driven by irrational nostalgia I’d like to track down the album.
Any help would be appreciated.
Was it a double album? If so Rolled Gold .
Certainly not Rolled Gold (an excellent compilation), none of the tracks mentioned are on it!
Solid Rock? From what l remember it’s a crappy cover but decent enough compilation
Gimme Shelter, a 1971 compilation put out by Decca comprising of previously released studio tracks and live recordings from the US album Got Live If You Want It.

I had exactly the same thought, I had a tape of it with the oddly too fast Satisfaction.
I had that on tape. First time I’d heard The Stones. I remember thinking Sympathy was a strange sounding track. Why did they have to have that annoying woo woo all the time and then those hesitant jabs of guitar, and Jagger singing falsetto like a woman. Most peculiar. Then you get used to it and it’s great. I was a beginner then you could say.
Best Stones LP ever. All the studio menace you could wish for on side one, and on side two, half a dozen tracks banged out live at the Royal Albert Hall as if they needed to finish before the bar closed. Sleeve notes by Don Wardell. Me neither. 1971, and available in mono and stereo on vinyl, musicassette or stereo 8 cartridge. Awesome LP.
Ahh… Thank you. this is definitely it. I remember the cover :).
I think JQW has solved it but, for future reference, Discogs has a handy search function. Go to the artist page, enter the track name into the box underneath the Discography tab.
