Mr Squeezer is the expert in this particular field, but I think the answer is Qobuz. Better and cheaper: what’s not to like?
Nothing other than the switching friction.
I used Tidal for a few years and it’s fine. I’m a Qobuz subscriber now. I pay a yearly subscription which brings the price down to under £11 a month. There were other considerations apart from price that swayed my decision, they are French so not American. They are not owned by a financial tech company like Tidal they are owned and operated by Xandrie SA. a digital entertainment and culture company. Out of all the streamers they pay artists the most, which is of course not enough but I don’t think we need to open up that can of worms yet again. They absolutely will not have anything to do with AI slop. Do they have gaps in their catalogue? Yep but not so many, I’ve only rarely been unable to find certain titles. As for switching you will be able to port your playlists over painlessly using a tool such as Soundiiz. You’ll be asked if you wish to do this when you first open your new account. It’s a piece of cake. Lastly and I have no proof of this but along with many others I think Qobuz sounds marginally clearer than Tidal, just a smidgen more spacious. I have been a Qobuz subscriber for about 5 years and like Pencil Squeezer I pay annualy to achieve the best price.
Their sound is the best in my opinion. Very happy with their dashboard and music content and recommendations.
Always look forward every week to their new music Fridays.
Highly recommended.
What the others say…
I did a full comparison three years or so ago of all the high res subscriptions and Qobuz was the winner for me. In fact I’m on it now listening with my pi8’s at work, sounds great!
They have not long upgraded the app which has improved things further with the layout /content info.

As all of the major streaming services have more or less the exact same catalogue it comes down to the price, the UI and to a very fine degree slight differences in SQ. After spending time over the years with all of the major players my preference in those three areas are decidedly for Qobuz.
