After owning it for ten years I have just found out that I can apparently play music through my hi-fi using Bluetooth. Trouble is, I have no idea how to.

You need to play it on your phone/tablet, select audio device* to be the BT receiver, and select the BT input on it.
(*) On Android it is called something like that. I can check if you really need to know.
I recently got my first Bluetooth device and it’s easy peasy. Set the input on the hifi to Bluetooth, [instructions for iPad] go to Settings, Bluetooth (check it is switched to on), and when it finds the hifi add it to the list of authorised devices.
