I am using a Mac.
The originator is sending me soundfiles in RAR format via MediaFire. I download them and then decompress them into FLAC files using the freeware app Unarchiver.
When I play back I get gaps in the sound and crackly noise intereference. There is no patttern to this.It has happened with files sent previously. The originator says he hasn’t had the problem reported by anyone else.
Any suggestions?
I have heard of his kind of thing before.
I’m not a Mac user, but is it possible to run freeware like WinRAR under Windows and try that?
I am having a go at WinZip under a free trial.
Try 7-Zip too – open source, better, and less hassle than Winzip these days, and super easy via the right-click context menu.

Yes. 7-Zip is good, reliable software for Mac or PC. Certainly better than Windows 11’s native unZipper, embedded in Explorer, which doesn’t yet* support RAR archives.
*Supposedly a new version of File Explorer, in the major Win11 update that’s coming in October, will be able to unpack RAR files. I’ll be sticking with 7-Zip though, because I’m used to it.
Thanks – hadn’t heard of that one. Will give it a try
Any luck Junes?
Haven’t got to it yet Foxy. Been busy.

I thought I had downloaded it but it reverted to another program. Mac says it wont let me open it as it is from an unidentified developer.
Mac OS does that with software you download from anywhere other than their App Store*. You can override that warning, either for one instance or all the time. The control panel for that varies according to which version of the OS you’re using.
* Not including stuff like Adobe Creative Cloud
I went into security settings and said open it anyway and then i just got an open source type text box which bamboozled me.
Seems like it is something for tech heads.
I think right click and open rather than a double left click normally works (ignoring the warning)
Utterly unfamiliar with Apple and their OS so I don’t understand the detail of your problem.
Windows also dislikes you installing many independent programs that they don’t approve of. They’ll ask if you really want to install something, tell you it might be dangerous and then offer you an option to “Install Anyway”.
