I’m going – it’s my sixth End of the Road. It’s such an easy and civilised weekend. I’m looking forward to:
Goat
Ezra Furman
Steve Mason
Laura Gibson
Thee Oh Sees
Kevin Morby
Phosphorescent
But mainly just sitting by the Garden Stage with coffee/bloody mary and soaking up some late summer sun. Fingers crossed.
Teleman should be good if you don’t already know them.
Field Music and everybody above in the listings are worth seeing. Stick a pin in the list of everyone below. I thought Margo Price was very good on Later but she’s not really my kind of thing.
Highlights were Cat Power, Margo Price, Ezra Furman, JD McPherson, Steve Mason, Whitney, Field Music and Goan Fish Curry.
Lowlights: Broken Social Scene (way too loud), Joanna Newsom (too wet and knackered by then), Adam Buxton trying (and failing) to be funny with Bridget Christie
Unexpected discoveries: Throws, Karl Blau, Julia Jacklin, Anna Meredith, Thee Oh Sees, The Leaf Library, Bill Ryder Jones
A bit meh: Devendra Banhart, Phosphorescent, The Shins, Holly Macve
Hardest working band: Surprise Show
OOAA.
Also enjoyed: recurring mini mingle with @harold-holt.
Not sure who this Harold Holt chap is but he sounds a decent egg. Twas certainly a weekend of mini-mini mingles. Can’t argue with much of the above, would include Jeffrey Lewis as one of my highlights along with Meilyr Jones – they both kept my attention despite the downpour. Enjoyed Broken Social Scene and Thurston Moore but annoyed not to be able to get within 50m of the Big Top for King Gizzard. Lasted one Joanna Newsom song before weather, tiredness, that voice send me to bed. Cafe Dish fruit cake was the food highlight this year ( my 9th).
No not the dead PM (Dead PMs -TMFTL) well presumed dead they never found his body and conspiratorialists had him whisked off in a Chinese submarine, but I digress.
Just back – mingled on a micro basis with Mike and Heather Hull. If I spent more time on here I might have realised we could have mingled an a larger scale! Weather could have been better but hey ho. Really enjoyed The Fannies and Scritti last night, but the ‘Main’ headliners left me cold (and Animal Collective’s wilful quirkiness actually made me quite angry). Finally managed to work out who Wild Beasts were as they were playing their final song #oldfogies. Pleasant surprises were Seratones (who responded well to a tiny crowd decimated by the downpour), Pinegrove, Throws and Whitney. Pho Sho were the food outlet discovery of the weekend. Roll on next year!

Listening to Margo Price right now, and kicking myself for missing her local gig the other night. So, yeah, go see Margo Price.
Just back.

Sorry – getting my harrys mixed up with my harolds. A bad case of disappearing Aussie PMs.
is not Harold Holt a member of this parish
