We use Windows Defender which is fine but doesn’t seem to pick up some malware/unintentionally downloaded by Twang Jr crap. Any reccos for a nice not resource hogging bit of software? Don’t mind paying for decent tool. (Mcafee….eeeeugh).

The fine Vulpes has sent me three, one of which is Malwarebytes. I’m trying to work out how my Minecraft obsessed son appears to be spending his time visiting a CRM system site? Zen office.com……bizarre.
Possibly some Malware is racking up hits to that site…maybe to big up it’s Google stats.
No this came from Microsoft Family Safety web activity report rather than Malware. Something is going there!

either that or yer boy is spending a lot of time looking at CRM systems in which case I think it’s time to sit him down for ‘a little chat’ 😉
SuperAntiSpyware is another good one. There’s the option to pay a small one-off fee and have run it in the background to actively filter out PUPs.
Only my mother can somehow manage to bypass it.

I’m using Hitman Pro and been impressed with it. You can use either a free version that sit in memory or a paid for version that loads on to your machine.
Good call – I just added the 64bit version of Hitman to that Dropbox folder for you T.
My pc got a horrific virus that ate all its memory. The only cure I could find was a dustbin.
No bother since I went Mac.
I’ve just told AVG to do one when they were about to help themselves to £50 again hoping I wouldn’t notice. Are any of the free anti-virus and anti-malware offerings a practical alternative?

Avast is free and seems to do the job. I also run the occasional scan with Malwarebytes and CCleaner. All free.
I’ve uses Avira for years and always found it easy and efficient. You do get a daily pop-up recommending you upgrade to the paid version but I think you can disable that somehow if it bothers you.
