Anybody had any success recovering an accidentally deleted file?
I’ve mistakenly dumped an audio file from an Olympus digital voice recorder and I could REALLY do with that sucker back. I’m prepared to pay for a bit of software that works but there’s a bewildering array online. (Technical note: It connects to my Mac via USB.)

Was the recording erased from built-in storage in the device itself, a memory card or from your computer?
Either way, wherever it was erased from, do NOT record/save anything else onto it until your lost recording has been recovered or you know it is lost for good.
What file system does the device or card use? What format are the files stored in?
If it’s on a card as Mike H says you need to pop the card into a card reader (I got mine from Poundland and it works fine), then install Recuva on your computer, plug the card reader into the computer, open Recuva and ask it to scan the card location. At least that worked for me when I accidentally erased all photos instead of one from my camera.
Does Recuva run on Macs?
I’ve always used PCs but a quick Google for ‘Recuva for Macs’ suggest there are versions out there, though I can’t vouch for them. I know Macs are popular around here so hopefully someone else can confirm.
Another vote for Recuva. It’s a chuffin’ life-saver.
Relief, relief, it turns out I’m not such a fuckwit after all, and I had actually saved it off before I deleted it!
Thank you so much, all who replied,.
(Mike H: I had used the voice recorder since so it would probably have been a lost cause!)
