A friend’s Dad (now 92) lives in Grayshot (near Guildford) but is soon moving into a Care Home. He has a large collection of near-perfect condition vinyls, all of which are Classical. Local charities are not interested. He’s a rich old bugger so not particularly interested in getting any money for them but would love his much-prized records to find a good home.
Any ideas, chaps?

And a bump…
Presumably any potential museum/arts foundation recipients have been asked? If there are any left after the last 15 years, of course.
He’s tried friends, local music societies, choirs etc…. if only he had some Val Doonican in there.
A local independent radio station? Do such things still exist?
“It’s Radio South Surrey on this sunny morning – next up after the traffic news, Chopin – howsabout some Nocturnes? “
Pretty certain most local radio streams their music but thanks anyhow.
Top qual deutsche gramophone pressings and the like might be of interest.
The classical and musicals gluts , soon to be followed by the already started boomer record collection glut.

I was trying to remember the name of the classical vinyl dealer off Oxford St but I found these.
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=classical+vinyl+specialist&ia=web turns up a whole page of promising results actually – a lot more than I would have expected.
Cheers!

Disc Union is a large chain of record stores in Japan. If your friend’s collection is indeed near-perfect (and depending on the labels) they might be interested in the whole collection.
A woman here sold her husband’s Deutsche Grammophon collection (complete, arranged by catalog numbers) for a six-figure sum to them. And they paid for shipping!
Great, thanks
Christ, I bet he was mightily pissed off when he got back from the pub.
Check the small ads in the back of Gramophone magazine. There are loads of dealers in 2nd hand classical music LP’s and I’m sure your friend’s dad’s collection would be hoovered up in no time. Given his age, I guess he may have some 60’s pressings which might be worth something. If it was me, I’d be adding the LP’s to my own collection which I listed on Discogs.. Alternatively, have you tried donating to Oxfam? I can’t believe they would turn down a collection of classical LP’s in good condition.
His daughter phoned five or six local charity shops – all said thanks but no. Nothing physical in my music collection anymore… just a minute, what’s that you’re saying – “Banned from the Afterword”?
Here’s a useful guide from Revolutions33:

Ta, been there but ta
I buy classical records, I am down south early July, please pm me
Too late I’m afraid, the whole house clearance thing is very last minute. Everything to go by this Thursday morning. I’m guessing the House Clearance guys, who will remove everything that’s left, will take them straight to the tip. Such a shame.
Cheers anyway.
OMG, that’s awful, if you were able to leave them at another address I’d be happy to come see you there?
I live in France but I’ll contact them and see if there’s an address nearby they can leave the records till early July. If that’s possible I’ll PM you.
Cheers
cool, thank you!
Well blow me down. The housekeeper was in the village bakers today and met a bloke from Church who said “”Don’t suppose Mike’s records are looking for a new home?”
Thanks to all who replied, especially @Gardener
