We’ve just ditched Virgin Media Tv and Broadband, brought a new Smart Tv and now have Brsk broadband. So far so good though there were a few teething problems with the broadband and returning VM’s equipment wasn’t as easy as maybe it should have been but no matter.
So now everything will be streamed but “all” I’m after is after is Sky Sports and TNT (or is it Discovery?) Sports….It doesn’t seem possible to bundle it all together under one provider (Unless you live in Europe and are a customer of NOW TV,) so is the solution only to have a separate Sky and TNT subscription?
I know it’s first world problem but any advice appreciated. I hate change, me.

Firestick, YouTube jailbreak video, plus an IPTV app. All the sport you can eat for around 60 quid a year. According to a very close friend of mine this is the way to go.
I do hope that is all above board and ethical…😬?
A close friend tells me that the two main problems with Firestick Jailbreak are
1. You can’t record and watch later
2. No subtitles option
I’m only asking as an uninterested observer but is my close friend Wrong?
Fire stick is one way but other IPTV options are available such as on the Apple TV. Channels DVR (monthly subscription) can deal with them and also record streams as long as you have epg data. It’s a bit of a project, but works quite well. Also records regular TV from aerial/antenna

1. Correct, they are solely streaming devices, no hard drive on which to store what’s been paused.
2 My close friend tells me that it depends on your IPTV app. The one they use has subtitles on most series and movies.
I thank you and all your friends.
For the purposes of clarity, the Steady Household are upright citizens, possibly even uptight…
You can buy TNT via Sky and pay for it as part of your Sky subscription. You can then view on any mini boxes or via SkyGo
I thought we could but I can’t quite nail it down
Have a look at Now TV Sports. There is normally a deal and I pay £25 a month for all sports channels in 4k for many. Normally commit for 6 month packages and there is always another deal available when the minimum term is up. Works well across lots of devices. I also have the entertainment channels and they are much cheaper than I was paying when with Sky.
Are you sure though? We’ve looked at NOW and it seems to be Sky only?
As far as I can ascertain Sky Sports is available via Now TV but not TNT. It looks like you can do both via a Sky TV subscription though. Alternatively you could take out a subscription with Now TV for the Sky Sports channels and a seperate subscription with discovery + which will give you access to TNT.
Now is the Sky streaming service so it’s a good way to get Sky Sports without having Sky equipment or nicking it through IP tv providers. If you want the other sports channels they will be separate subs. I had TNT for a few months but the sports covered were not great for me.
I think the main advantages are that you don’t have to commit to 12 month plus contracts to get the deals on Now.
My Virgin Broadband subscription (no TV, just internet and linked to my O2 mobile account) ends in a few weeks time. Currently paying £22.22 for 250GB but from August they want £66.63 a month. There is no way on earth I’m going to pay that much. I suppose I’ll have to do some polite haggling now, like I did 18 months ago.
I’ll be contacting Customer Services/Accounts to inform them I won’t continue with them at that price and I’ll ask them what other deals they can offer me. No doubt their best offer will still be overpriced, so then I’ll tell them I’m cancelling. They’ll then put me through to Cancellations, which is not the department’s real name.
It’s real name is Retentions and Retentions are authorised to offer much better deals than Accounts.
If it goes anything like last time their best deal will still not be low enough and I’ll tell them so.
Last time around I went as far as signing up to another provider and requesting my landline be transferred over. I then got a call from Virgin Retentions offering me double the speed of the previous contract for a few quid less than I was previously paying, which I accepted. I then cancelled the contract with the other provider.
It’s a ridiculous rigmarole, but I suppose it works very lucratively for them like that, as most customers will settle for a bad deal rather than persist.
I took out a new contract with Plusnet on Friday after they contacted me to offer me more bandwidth for less money. They do this everytime I get to within a few months of my current contract expiring. I did it all online and from Monday when they turn the taps on a little more I’ll be getting around 500mbps an upgrade from the 300mbps I’m currently getting for £4 a month less than I’m paying currently. This means that next year when they hike the price I’ll end up paying roughly the same as I do now but with more bandwidth but for the rest of this year and into next my broadband is cheaper and faster.
The whole rigmarole took less than ten minutes to sort out.
Log on to your account and there should be a button with a “take it now” deal. I did this rather than cancel and wait for the retention phone call. Probably not the best deal I could have got but easy and I was busy. I think it was about £33 a month which was comparable with Zen at the time.
Update:
Called Virgin Media Support just an hour ago and expressed my dissatisfaction at being offered a price rise that tripled my bill.
I was immediately offered a reduction to £27.50 and then, without even asking, it was suggested I stay on the line while the agent looked at further discounts.
I have now re-signed for exactly the same service level for £24 a month, which I have accepted.
I’ve also renegotiated my O2 mobile contract which is now £10/month instead of £17.50 with a 50% increase in my data allowance.
Job done.
Substitute Sky for Virgin and I had exactly the same experience a couple of months ago. I ended up ditching Sky (they wanted £120 a month and they would only haggle down to £101), so I went with Virgin which included an upgrade to Full Fibre at 1000 mbps, Sky Sport, Cinema and Netflix plus a new 43” TV worth £250. It was for slightly less than my Sky package pre increase, so a no brainer.
After I cancelled, I got emails from Sky and a phone call offering me the TV package for about £50, and with broadband that would have been about the same as Virgin, but I was so angry that they didn’t offer me that until I had actually left them, and I told them as much. They lost a customer unnecessarily.
Getting similar discount offers from the AA now that I’m no longer a member.
“We miss you”. 30% discount for a year etc. etc.
I was previously expected to pay £120-odd for breakdown and relay cover on renewal, but my current car insurance now includes equivalent RAC cover, for a little under £300 for the whole package.
Bye bye, AA.
You clearly don’t bank at Lloyd’s: Full AA cover gratis, for whatever the monthly account fee is.
Something to bear in mind, should I ever want to change bank accounts.
