“The fourth instalment of George Miller’s punky post-apocalyptic ‘Mad Max’ saga feels like a tornado tearing through a tea party. In an age of weightless movie spectacles, here’s a movie that feels like it was made by kidnapping $150 million of studio money, fleeing with it to the Namibian desert, and sending footage back to Hollywood like the amputated body parts of a ransomed hostage.”

I’m seeing it tomorrow. Cannot wait: one of the best trailers I’ve seen in years.
Reviews, thus far, are awesome.
Went to a double-bill of the first two with my little brother many years ago. Aside perhaps from the first Star Wars movie on a big chewy slug of Afghan Black, probably the most enjoyable cinematographic evening of my life. Can’t wait to go see this new one.
We had a double bill screening of the first two movies at work last week. I’d forgotten how worryingly realistic some of the stunt-work looks, and how cleverly shot the final chase scene in the second movie is.
Interesting. Generally it has been held back from critics and was apparently completed some time ago. All suggesting that they thought they might have a turkey on their hands.
I can put that one to bed. The internal buzz around this movie is extremely strong – it got bumped last year because of the World Cup, nothing more sinister than that.
in addition to the above, some more choice phrases from the reviews I’ve seen so far tonight
“Mad Max: Fury Road is one of the greatest action films ever made”
“Fury Road’ steers this macho franchise in a brilliant new direction”
“In a movie season exhaustingly cluttered with never-ending superhero sagas and reboots, Fury Road arrives, despite its pedigree, as a daring, fascinating, thrilling jolt of original energy. It’s invigorating the way a big cinema spectacular should be, reveling in the medium’s towering possibilities, and transporting us to a thoroughly realized world that’s wholly unlike our own.”
“I doubt there will be a more rousing potential blockbuster released this summer. Go see it. It’s maddeningly good.”
Hope so, delaying for the World Cup when prime market is US is strange, though.
Global audiences increasingly important for action movies though, and particularly this franchise.
Yeah, the reviews are across the board enthusiastic – and the film has not been held back from reviews. Its now the norm for reviews to be embargo’d till the week leading up to release

Interesting that the baddie from MM1 returns
5 stars for Empire too

Seen it now. It’s amazing: five stars from Bingo Little.
May see it today, Kermode was pretty lukewarm and box office a little disappointing.
Saw it yesterday, it’s absolutely berserk. Full on from practically the first minute (the only comparable thing I could think of in terms of pace and it’s sheer in-your-face factor is maybe CRANK?) and visually stunning.
Great fun.
Seen it now and yes, it’s terrific fun. The best 2000AD strip I never read.
