I fund Thea Gilmore on Patreon. At my basic support level there is one old (usually rare) song and one exclusive new song per month as well as blogs, early notification of new releases, tours and so on. I guess you will know ahead of time what you get in return for your investment (in addition to the warm glow of keeping a favoured artist going when it’s harder than ever to make a living in music).
The only other thing I would point out is that the weak pound and, in my bank account at least, additional charges for overseas transactions means that the dollar donation you give pretty much the same number in pounds leaving you bank account.
I use it to support a couple of Podcasts including Chart Music. Its alright, does the job.
The site itself is pretty clunky, it asks you to verify if you access it from a new phone or device and the way it delivers bonus audio or video content is pretty naff. It’s great for those who want the finding but they really need to improve the end user ‘experience’.
I support a writer / journalist who delivers near daily news and think pieces about Leeds United. The user journey is simple and suits me: I get an email with a link to his page.
I fund Thea Gilmore too. A few glitches recently with downloads, so it’s not 100% user friendly, however it gives direct support to and interaction with the artist. Wary of artist funding having had fingers burned by Pledge Music (not as much as the artists themselves of course), however PayPal means you could always cancel at any time if it wasn’t going well. Personally I’m very happy with it.
Covermesongs recently went that route. Oddly, so far it seems most of the subscribers are the writing team, somehow missing the point. But it’s a start! It seems a preferred route for US based blogs to avoid resorting to ads. Thinking it through, AW is essentially crowd sourced: us!!
I give a few quid to the Bigmouth podcast each month using it. The cash comes out once a month; once a week there’s an extra bit waiting for me in itunes… works fine

The “artist” is UK based but the donations are in dollars. I read they accept PayPal and I have dollars in my account so that shouldn’t be an issue.

Me too. I fund a couple and only pay when they issue something. You’re right Doc the site is clunky but I don’t have to use it that much thankfully.

My brother runs a video games podcast and uses Patreon to fund it. It seems ideal for small to medium projects needing a bit of capital.

I use it for a few things: Chart Music Podcast, Quietus etc. It does it’s job.
I signed up and paid via PayPal. Easy and quick process.
