Last tour he undertook before Covid sold out three nights at Royal Albert Hall and did brisk trade at other UK venues. Hardly what you would call niche or on the wane.
Having said that, this would be a good thing. I’m happy for him to follow his muse but PT was/is my favourite Steven Wilson vehicle.
I don’t really get PT beyond The Sky Moves Sideways. I saw them around the time of Stupid Dream or Lightbulb Sun and it was one of the few times I’ve been bored at a gig.
I prefer No-Man and I’m a bit miffed that 2019’s Love You To Bits seems to have been a one-off. I’m looking forward to the No-Man box set, if only to have Flowermouth on vinly.
I think it comes down to “I prefer their earlier stuff”.
I started long before No-Man with Samuel Smiles (I worked with the brother of the guitarist, and have been pals with they keyboardist since I moved to Cambridge in my late teens).
I loved No-Man, liked early PT but went off them after Sky Moves Sideways. I don’t really do hard riffing, and especially not the metal stuff that came later. I last saw PT at the Scala around the time of Deadwing, but walked out after about half an hour and took an early train home.
The “I’m a pop artist, me”, phase obviously indicated “more selective appeal”.
This is very welcome.

I like all his wanderings and a new PT would be good too. One question is, which PT? They switched genres too.
Bunch of pricks.Could do with shedding a few members
Oh, very good!
New album “Closure / Continuation” on 24 June 2022, with a tour in Oct / Nov 22.
First track “Harridan” is out….
I’m looking forward to it but I love Colin Edwin’s bass playing so I hope he’s involved.

I think Lightbulb Sun is one of their best albums!

So I’m in ‘Team Bowness’ really.
Yes. Yes they are.
I feel duty bound to point you to this song, which had me in floods of tears when I first heard it.
It’s rather good isn’t it – and that only after a couple of listens.
I have the Bluray version of the album on order and it’s going to be a long wait until June.
