Not quite sure how serious your blog title is, but part of the deal with Aphex Twin (and his many pseudonyms) is that he’s as likely to ease you off to the land of nod with a wonderfully light ambient tune, as blast your head open with a nosebleed techno sensory assault, and the joker persona he’s maintained ensures you’re never quite sure what he might come up with next… “drukqs” (from whence the lovely track Avril 14th above comes) is a perfect example – a double album which could easily have been split into a “plonky piano” CD and a “hardcore rave” CD, but no, he splits everything up, apparently at random, to provide the most disjointed listening experience he can…
For sheer consistency though, “Selected Ambient Works 1985-92” remains his best entry-level album, though “Surfing On Sine Waves” (as Polygon Window) comes close…
I am pretty serious about much of his work sounding like a badly scratched jungle CD. However, delighted to get any recommendations. As his stuff is all on eMusic I can download to my heart’s content. Any more?
