Oh, “apartment” is it. Later on I’ll be bedding down in a bijoux self-catering property called “le bus shelter”, after getting kicked out of the plush hotel known as “le maison du doss”. Temps are dure, bro.
After hitching a lift once I was dropped off in a small village in the late hours. I curled up in a phone box, not very comfy but I had a bedside phone.
45 euros a night. When we walked in the room hadn’t been cleaned, tissues and hair on the bed, yuk! Phoned the owners and in my most Fluide of French demanded satisfaction. Two minutes later she arrived, moved us downstairs to the luxury suite (La Gare) and handed over a bottle of Corbière’s finest. No wonder I got Wordle in one this morning
You’re a bunch of Fotherington-Tomases, frankly. I hitch-hiked to Turkey (as far as I got to the Mystic East at that time) and back, not spending a single night in a bed. Nor a phone box.

Hey Saucecraft & Rawlinson I didn`t try 4 incorrect attempts for a feckin` laugh!
I do Wordle on my iPad in bed at night that`s why most of my postings are in the very early hours. I will post my attempts later for your amusement because I don`t have the iPad at hand. I can only remember my first propper attemt: HOVER.
For obvious reasons the answer came to mind for what would have been my second propper attempt but it`s not a feckin` word is it? Only the feckin` Yanks……..
I think it’s probably safe to post this now with the English blanked (or yellowed) out.
I took a walk down these today so it seemed apt. I think most will have wordled by now
@chiz
That’s the problem if you post a word(correct or almost correct) , especially as you can see it in the updates (without having to visit this page) before doing wordle.
It does somewhat mar the playing.
I have a question. Today the answer I have starts with an ‘F’. Over in the UK, I am told it starts with an ‘S’. Is this part of the Brexit dividend Rees-Mogg was desperately searching for?
We have two cute but murderous kittens who on a daily basis bring these fellows back home.
“Look, the tail comes away and I can bat that round the room for a few minutes before I get bored. Look, I’ve just bitten its head off. Look, it’s stopped moving. Oh, go on then – tickle my tummy. Whilst you’re there I’ll have some Whiskas”
Whenever I have visitors over from UK, three things that are extremely common here seem guaranteed to totally freak them out. Especially kids. Firstly, gekkos in the house, secondly lizards in the garden, and thirdly eating octopus. UK dwellers are odd.
Our local gecko is called the Native House Gecko (Gehyra dubia), unimaginatively enough. Also known as Dubious dtella. They’re supposed to rid your house of cockroaches, but they don’t do a great job.
I like having them around the house. They’re decorative. And anything that kills mozzies gets a gold star in my book. Plus I love the way they seem to think that if they stay perfectly still you can’t see them.
It’s very possible we have a python in our attic – we found a shed skin in the bathroom extractor fan – so that will take care of any amount of bastards I imagine. Until it nods off, anyway.
A most satisfying struggle to get my par. Some days brilliance isn’t enough, you’ve got to dig in, show what you’re made of, think of all those days on the practice ground, the more you practice the luckier you get, true grit, focus focus
Wordle 330 4/6
Some of us enjoy the struggle of a hard-worked four. Not for us an easy stroll down the fairway – we like exploring the trees. Took a while to find the ball but we got there.
Wordle 336 4/6
They’re a mindblowing trio of identical twins from Fröshoutovmylkk who play traditional Lapp and Memmonite musics on reimagined body parts from forest graves. Informed by loss, grief, and a palpable sense of existential malaise, the brothers’ (all transitioning to non-gender specific status) long-awaited first album “The Herring Harvest Failure: Laments And Hymnals” arrives after a fifteen-year hiatus during which the siblings grieved for their pet gnu.
You just don’t appreciate the artistry involved here. This is how magicians work, you know. How does he do it, you ask? Well, sweat and toil, HP, sweat and toil.
I like to try to fit in by occasionally throwing in a three among all my ones and twos. Wouldn’t want anyone feeling inadequate about all their fives and sixes.
There are moments – brief, fleeting moments – when the cosmic wheels coincide and life not only seems to make sense but to be beautiful. This is one such moment.
It’s a sobering thing to see a man with a once-shining (well … not quite matte finish) mind descend into the darkness of paranoia, blaming his inadequate and shaming performance on the unfair avantage and malign intent of a shadowy conspiracy. Sobering.
@chiz I tried to give you a clue, the sun rising over the hill banishing night as the day takes over. No longer shall you peer in the darkness.
If HP and Mike are conspiring I’m not privy to it.
You know, there was a time when this level of abuse on The Afterword would have resulted in a) A thread announcing the wounded party’s sorrowful departure from the blog; b) a subsequent Will The Trolls Just Fuck Off thread in which the person who had left would enthusiastically take part; c) a magnanimous I Have Decided to Return thread from the person who hadn’t actually left in the first place
Y’know, Chiz, you won’t be hearing any disagreement from me on that account. Self-congratulation is not a becoming trait but I think we all merit a pat on the back for collectively moving the blog – sorry! forum! – to a higher – might one say Corinthian? – level of discourse yer great GIRL’S BLOUSE..
So, let me work this out. Where you are it’s like two in the morning? Or maybe half-past ten? Or you are in another time space continuum? Anyways, I reckon today’s/yesterday’s/tomorrow’s answer is ELECT. Am I right or, gosh, am I Wrong?
Here – let me give you a hand – the L and A were correct letters, unhappily placed (resulting in those attractive yellow “tiles”!) and the central E was bang “on the money”!
Come now! Did you really think I expected you to believe that? Of course not. I was feeding you STARE because tomorrow you’re going to clueless, again!

Hey – what happened to chiz? Haven’t seen his Allegro in the car park for a while now. Strange his absence coincides with Mr. Thep and me changing our clubs for teeing off – has to be a coincidence.
Nearly hit the Jackpot with my first which I thought of when thinking about some folk around here. The second was a guess but could only be one of two.
Thank you for being 499.
I’d like to thank everyone associated with this 5 Hamper Thread, especially Billy Wordle without whom none of this would have been possible. And, of course, let’s not forget Chiz. Chiz was born in 1945, the first born of Reg & Mary-Anne. His early years were difficult (contd p94)
A little hint for Cheeky Chiz, our own Chislehurst Climber – your start word and mine were different. (Not “different”, which has more than five letters, so don’t try that!)
And the Lord seddeth into them, “From this time forth, whenever there are three possibilities in Wordle, Ye shall pick the wrong two first.” And a great confusion fell upon the crowd. “So how come Mike gets to have an out-of-the-blue two, while we’re stuck with these fives?” they quothed. “Because ye are cunts,” repliedeth the Lord.

In this context “getting a wordle in one” sounds like a terrible euphemism akin to “dropping an anchor”.

Squib Ouija & Fjord – coming to a DuCool albums list near you
They’re a mindblowing trio of identical twins from Fröshoutovmylkk who play traditional Lapp and Memmonite musics on reimagined body parts from forest graves.
Customers who bought this also bought Clannad, Enigma and Pan Pipes Play The Singing Milkman.

*patronisingly* Oh, well done you! Well done!
We’re all so much more mature these days
Well said, plop-pants!
As reported elsewhere, today’s first word lead to a 15 second birdie.

If you can do it in three does that deny my ability to do a 2?
I’m sure you will agree a Quick 2 leaves a feeling of “too easy”?
I’d rather say lucky, however that only applies to the first guess the 2nd is at least educated.

So, let me work this out. Where you are it’s like two in the morning? Or maybe half-past ten? Or you are in another time space continuum? Anyways, I reckon today’s/yesterday’s/tomorrow’s answer is ELECT. Am I right or, gosh, am I Wrong?
Judging by HP’s effort I’d say it’s either TRACT or GRANT
Have another guess, chiz! Go on! This is fun! How hard can this be?
My start word was PLEAT, if that’s any help!
Here – let me give you a hand – the L and A were correct letters, unhappily placed (resulting in those attractive yellow “tiles”!) and the central E was bang “on the money”!
