Cherry Red scour the archives again and come up with Surrender To The Rhythm: The London Pub Rock Scene Of The Seventies.
3CDs of honest, sweaty, rock music – never mind the image, feel the tunes.
Brinsley Schwarz, Eggs Over Easy, Dr Feelgood, Eddie and The Hot Rods all present and correct.
Even Thin Lizzy, Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Status Quo, and The Jam get a track each.
I think I’ll have a pickled egg on the side too
Fabulous stuff!
Marvellous. Scotch egg on the side please. Actually, make it two.
🍻
Mickey Jupp’s Legend! They were great. Sarfend boys, you know.
Chilli Willi & The Red Hot Peppers make an appearance with We Get Along – fine track.
This one – Goodbye Nashville Hello Camden Town – is equally as fine
Sorry – misunderstood the OP…
… Lockdown lifted here completely on Saturday – though our borders still remain effectively closed, thank goodness.
The big question is – and probably dependent upon the weather – cider or local bitter/real ale?
Not jealous (at all)
I have cans of Boddingtons chilling nicely (festering?) under the car port.
Pah! Who needs a pub?
(I do …)
Where are you?
Pubs opened here (Ottawa) last weekend. Only for people to sit outside on patios. I took advantage and went to my local hostelry.
I have the pleasure of being born/living in Guernsey.
Nearly (I think) 40 days virus-free.
Measures being lifted – “Phase 5” – announced a week ago, so tomorrow some restrictions still apply, then at 00:01 on Saturday a free for all. Al-fresco dining in the Town for the weekend, with the banning of traffic.
Local cricket match Saturday morning. Seems it will be transmitted/streamed around the world.
Which is nice – I am due to be one of the umpires…
Cool, I was watching a cricket game live on TV yesterday. A 10 over contest, possibly from Asia. The standard was pretty familiar, about the level I used to play (or worse). The wicketkeeper was appalling.

May I draw your attention to 47 seconds in…
.., “We” now have ICC official status as a cricket nation. I have the pleasure to be a NED on our Cricket Board. Onwards and upwards!
@biggles
Hats off, that’s ace!
Where in Guernsey, @biggles ? I spent every summer from 3 to 13 on the edge of Saumarez Park, clambering in on a daily basis, betting still there is a dip in the perimeter wall. Loved meandering down to Cobo bay and exploring the rock pools. As happy days as I can recall.
‘kin’ ‘ell Retro!
I live 5 minutes away from there (keep walking from the Park away from the harbour and you get to chez Biggles).
The West coast – particularly around Cobo Bay – still has the best sunset (though Cafe Del Mar may argue).
Herm remains beautiful, and Sark – with its official Dark Sky status – is still possibly my favourite place in the world.
With lockdown gone within the Bailiwick, I will be there next month.
xx
I am immediately transported to ‘The Prisoner’ as I read your exchange with ‘retropath 2’. Did anyone find out what happened to ‘retropath 1’?
Never. But, thanks for asking Mr Mrbellows. Returning to the Channel Islands, I was once stranded on Herm when a boat was delayed, possibly even Jethou, along with Cliff Richard. My sister was ever so excited. About 1965.
Not pub rock, but a Guernsey connection. I learned the capital and national anthem from this song –
Wow you lucky thing, sounds lovely. I’ve never been but must do.
Wot, no Any Trouble?
I’ve not been able to spell since last night’s thrilling nil-nil draw.
Wot, no Motors? Or are they Power Pop?
That might be it – they’ll be on a different 3CD box.
Thinking about it, Any Trouble didn’t release a single until 79, and I’m not sure they played That London until the album came out in 1980.
No Motors on this one, but does include Bram Tchaikovsky.
And Any Trouble.

(there’s another 20 quid I’ve thrown at Cherry Red)
That’s a cracking compilation; so many of those bands were support acts at early gigs I went to (eg The Donkeys supporting SLF in ’79, The Carpettes opening for loads of people in the North East)
And I see Chelsea have a track on it. Gene October has worked for Brighton council for decades, mainly as a street sweeper, and I suspect he’s due a very decent pension soon. He used to train at the same gym as me on the seafront (Riptide), and he almost cracked a smile when I said ‘You want the right to work out, eh Gene?’
They, Any Trouble, closed the last night at the Nashville Rooms. Probably 1980. I remember it well. Or vaguely. The Bluesband with Paul Jones were often lumped in with pub rock back then, and saw them a few times.
Motors covered by the presence of Andy McMaster and Nick Garvey in Ducks Deluxe.
I’ve never knowingly heard Ducks Deluxe but knew the Motors connection. I’m imagining they’re definitely more Pub Rock than Power Pop?
I’m sure I had, or liking, a Bram Tchaikovsky single…Lullaby on Broadway ?
