Superb podcasting this week with Al Murray & James Holland – day by day exposition of the key events of probably the turning point of WW2 on their ‘We Have Ways Of Making You Talk’ podcast.
Great balance of accurate history & ‘excitement’ at the drama unfolding.

I’ve dipped in and out – excellent pod. James Holland did an episode on Stalingrad on brother Tom’s “Rest is History” pod which is one of my favourites. Ta for the tip, I’m off the get them now.

I think you’re in for a treat & IIRC they’re around the 500 episodes mark.
I’d previously read a fair few respected books on the subject, but have to say my understanding of the subject has massively expanded through listening.
In essence, it comes down to ‘Logistics, Logistics, Logistics!’

Keep meaning to listen to these podcasts. James Holland’s books are superb.

Mad Vlad has just renamed Volgograd to Stalingrad for the day so that he can bleat on about being threatened by ‘German tanks’ again, hint darkly that he’ll toast ‘the west’ with nukes in his glorious fight to free the world of Nazism while his minions cheer him on and the huge bulk of everyday Russians don’t believe a word of his paranoia. What joy for imbolc.
Moose the Mooche says
Never mind the imbolcs

I listen to the podcast with his brother, Tom Holland, “The Rest is History”, which is also excellent and with a tad more variety. Also owned by Gary Lineker, I believe.
Also good – “Not Just the Tudors”, with la Lipscomb.
“Gone Mediaeval” ranges from quite excellent to AYFKM.

You’re friends with Spiderman?

Also “Rest is Politics” with Alistair Campbell and Rory Steward. Linaker pitched a pod with Dominic Cummings to Campbell who said no then Rory Stewart which works really well.

I like WHW but there’s so much of it I dip in and out – this thread has sent me back and I’m working through the Arnhem specials having done Stalingrad.
The ones they did on Crete are excellent. What a shambles that was.

I’d never encountered WHW before – but I’ve started listening to Stalingrad week on the recommendation of the OP. It’s riveting – not a subject I would normally have sought out to listen to, but I’m hooked!

You have plenty to go at Fitz. The Anthony Beavor interview is priceless.
I recommend Crete next.
