The Third Day is a new Sky series starring Jude Law and Katherine Waterstone, as well as exemplary supporting players like Paddy Considine and Emily Watson.
Having just reached the end of episode three last night (apparently the conclusion of the Jude Law part of the narrative, with another parallel story to come in the remaining three episodes), I’ve been totally blown away. I had been avoiding spoilers and reviews, so it was quite a shock to read some reviews today and see that the reception to this has been quite lukewarm!
Yes, it’s maybe all been done before (it’s basically the Wickerman mixed with Shutter Island and a bit of Woman in Black…. or at least appears to be that way to begin with….), but I think it’s done with real style and I was totally hooked.
Maybe it’s just up my street. I love all this sinister, pagan ritual, folk horror stuff. The plot is a bit convoluted but it kept me guessing to the end and it all escalated with expert precision. I’m also a sucker for narratives set over a very particular time period, like the three days here.
Anyone else been watching it? What did you think?
A couple of questions and spoilers in the comments.
