What does it sound like?:
For the uninitiated, Anthony Phillips was the original guitarist in Genesis, departing after 1970’s Trespass album having decided it wasn’t the life for him. Since then he’s been a prolific studio based artist, operating really as something of a cottage industry and releasing mostly instrumental music in various genres, rock, film/tv soundtracks, library music etc. This remastered reissue of a 1994 set was originally created as a soundtrack to tv coverage of the Whitbread Round The World Yacht Race. The original album is boosted by three bonus tracks (which appeared on the previous reissue in 2006) plus a second disc of previously unreleased music that wasn’t used at the time. The music is pleasant enough, sometimes evocative of the rolling seas or weather conditions, but overall rather drifts by like the ocean currents. I think this works best as a background while you’re busy doing something else, easy on the ear but not obtrusive or distracting.
