Now that is sad news. Only 14 when he started playing professionally if memory serves….
So sad. I knew he was ill but he’s been recovering. One of the grat bass players.
Sorry to hear it… I’ve actually watched a fair bit of recent Andy Fraser on youtube in the past couple of weeks. I’ve been intrigued at his stage persona on recent forays, usually guesting with other musicians while bringing along his protege Tobi.
He was always cool and reserved in Free but seems to have been throwing lots of shapes in these ‘comeback’ shows. But his playing was still amazing…

Sad news.
As a teenage Free fan I always thought the guitar / bass interplay here is staggering, and still do. I get foggy brained trying to separate the parts – so intertwined and perfectly economical whilst being funky and rocking…was this ever bettered? amazing vocal and drums too of course.

Second band I saw after Deep Purple as mentioned in another thread today before this news broke. He was a class act and Free were a top band – his rhythm work with Simon Kirk was special but when he cut loose as on The Stealer mentioned by Twang up above it was mesmerising. Interplay with Kossoff was almost like telepathy.
Love this version. He’s just a kid here. Sad, sad news.

Andy was of course famous for his bass playing, but I’ve always the simplicity of his piano playing on Heavy Load.
What this rehearsal version of ‘Heartbreaker’ lacks in production, it more than makes up for in soul. They had to be one of the most soulful blues rock acts ever.
Played the cd reissue of fire and water today. Must be 6 version of All Right Now.
