Hi everyone, another interview with a Word writer – this time Mr. Collins.
We talked about Word (obviously), his relationship with Richard Herring, his Billy Bragg book and what it’s like to work at the Radio Times.

Found it, in spite of the link! Thanks for the new one.
A lovely interview, AC is a top fella. The couple of times I’ve met him he has been nothing less than charming.
Some of you may know that I am a professional “low level freelance media wanker.” I remember one time I was in the BBC, I was walking along a corridor and Andrew Collins was coming towards me. I did not actually recognise him, but I was convinced that I knew who he was (possibly someone I worked with in the past?) but had forgotten his name. The encounter went something like this
Me “Hey! You! Good to see you again! What are you up to?”
AC “Oh, an interview and a couple of meetings, you know how it is?”
Me “Oh I know! Indeed! Well, good luck and lovely to see you again.”
Readers, I had never met or spoken to Andrew Collins in my life. I had just seen him on telly so much I thought that I had.
I can say that he was perfectly polite and possibly assumed that I was someone he had met briefly but who he failed to recognise now.
But yes, two total strangers were too polite to admit they were strangers.
Ah, what it is to be British. Gets you there, dunnit?
*dabs away quiet patriotic tear*
BBC security cameras actually recorded the chance encounter between Ganglesprocket and Mr Collins….
Great interview. Not that he needed much prompting.
Further proof that the era of Word magazine was a great period of time.
