It’s my favourite, because it’s the most like a treasure hunt, and tests my knowledge of the 190+ countries. It’s hardest, of course, when it leads you into the Pacific, in search of just that next isolated island – is it Nauru or Kiribati, Micronesia or the Christmas Islands? I average about 8, which isn’t bad.
Edit – just seen your Worldle post, hp – that’s great as well. Because there’s no scale, it could be San Marino or DRC – unless you know the shape. It’s also a treasure hunt, but a blind one, as you have to imagine the direction and how far to travel to get from your incorrect choice to a country local to the right one.
I also do Dordle, Quorde and Octordle – but not every day now, because they are a bit too samey, and I need some time to go swimming. Crosswordle is a speed game – can you think of all the words quickly enough to get a “Blimey, that was fast!” score….
9 guesses or me, today. I started from the country that was the answer for Worldle and headed out to Asia before iterating towards the correct country.
I always start with the UK. Having only one tiny land border, it strikes me as as good a place to start as any. Plus, I know roughly how far, say, Chad or India are from the UK. No idea how far Chad is from India, though.
I am so slapdash – I was going by the colour of the country only. I didn’t notice the ‘Closest border’ line at the bottom of the screen. I’m not sure if that makes it easier or not.
I do like the idea of unconsciously absorbing the distances between countries. Beyond a certain size, numbers become a bit meaningless. The world has a circumference of about 40,000 km, which means a point on the other side of the earth is 20,000km, coincidentally the size (in km2) of Wales – another useful reference to remember (I will forget this).
I got Papua New Guinea in one the other day. (Well, two.) I put in UK, and it said 13,000-odd km. So I typed in Papua New Guinea and BINGO. Pure jammy, but it felt good.
Yesterday was São Tomé and Príncipe. My partner got it in 3, largely cos I told her it was rock hard, so she went to Nigeria second and, having assumed it wasn’t a usual West African suspect, correctly jumped straight into the Gulf of Guinea. I’m not bitter at all.

England, Scotland and Wales are “invalid guesses.”
Yes. They are. Enjoy!
I do Globle daily, after doing Wordle, Crosswordle and Worldle.

Pretty pleased with 4 today.
5, but from Palau, I went straight to Cuba, on the basis of my newly-acquired knowledge that 14,000 km is nearly halfway round the world.
Will this help you find your baby?
