Paste’s turn now, with a schizophrenic mix of cuddly AW favourites, weird left field stuff, arcane US pop acts and unknown UK collectives. Some unusual bedfellows but the best list yet.

Now, I’ve heard of more of those.
But still only have 2 – Fontaines DC and Waxahatchee.
Either I need to buy more music, or these lists are wrong (I think the latter)
Heard of 4, own 1 (Dylan)
I have 6 or 7 of those including my likely choice for album of the year
I’ve seen a few lists now with the Fiona Apple album in the top two or three. She’s usually high up in the year end charts, but I just don’t get her at all. Maybe it’ll click at some point, but the only click at the moment is when I press the off button.
The crossover between this and the Quietus list is uncanny.
I own more from the Quietus list! (i.e. 1)
Annoying how you can’t backtrack back to this page from the link. Do they think that somehow they’ll force us to remain on their page?
Something must be wrong. I’ve heard 6 of these and have at least heard of half a dozen more. On the Quietus list I don’t think I have heard any of them and am sure that they only put in some familiar names to misdirect everyone from the fact that most of them are made up (‘Yves Tumor ?’).
But for the repeated absence of Sergeant Crikey, I’d assumed that Adrock compiled all their lists.
I have 5 and 1 on order.
Find it difficult to share the love for Fontaines DC – generic shouty noise with no redeeming factors. ooaa.
I look at the ’10 albums to stream this week’ page on Paste every week and a few of my favourites have come from there. It’s odd that I can’t recall most of the top 50 appearing on those pages. Perhaps they did.
I thought I’d start at no 50 and am currently listening to Gum Country who I swear I’ve never heard of before but is proving very enjoyable and proves the value of these lists.
Re: no.9
Strange that they’ve chosen to judge half of the Adrianne Lenker album in isolation.
The album “Songs and Instrumentals” comes as 2CDs or 2LPs, and the “songs” disc that Paste mention is only half of the album.
I’m still digesting the album at the moment. It’s a lot more low-key and restrained than the normal Big Thief sound.
It’s been a feature of this year. On the Album Of The Year website they have divided Moses Sumney’s Grae (granted, it’s very long) into two parts and rated it accordingly, on another site I saw Princess Nokia’s Everything Is Beautiful and Everything Sucks treated as a single package (granted, both v short, released a week apart and with bookend-style titles – but then the SAULT albums have bookend-style titles and covers..).
And that’s without getting into the minefield of “singles” and “E.P.s” which are longer than “albums” (Rapsody has re-released her album from last year as a pile of E.P.s with overlapping tracks) and swiftly released special editions of albums with bonus tracks/ singles bunged on to beef them up.
I blame Hugo Chavez..
I am digesting it too @duco01 but currently love the songs but the instrumentals need more time.
