Easily the best bits of the rather sloppy Stones album Love You Live came from the El Mocambo recordings (side 3 of the vinyl album).
Now the band is releasing the full set. On the evidence of the preview excerpts of It’s Only Rock n Roll and Rip This Joint, this sounds really promising.

I’m definitely up for this. That side of vinyl is my favourite live Stones.
Better than Leeds Lungs? A Brussels Affair? Interesting…
Absolutely!
It’s got a sense of intimacy their other live releases lack, and it manages that fine balance between sounding slightly sloppy and being absolutely on point.
There was some discussion about this on the tour dates thread. Should be good, but Hoffmanites are already gathering the pitchforks because of some apparently substandard mixing decisions they have gleaned from the YouTube clips.
It is the best side on Love You Live by a mile, but Get Your Ya Ya’s out is, for me, the greatest. Now official, Brussels Affair gives it a good run for it’s money despite Taylor’s overplaying
“Over-playing” – he completely blew the subtlety and restraint of a Rolling Stones concert, didn’t he?
It’s hard to pull off a giant, inflatable penis tastefully, but they somehow managed to do it.
And yes, I am aware of the comedy gold in the above sentence.
Did that actually happen? Wow. I remember I vaguely heard that was one of their stage props in their heyday, but it seems bizarre and tacky and I think I thought I dreamt it or something.
I’m tempted to google it, but I’m at work so had better not.
It was ’75.

You can overplay even with a giant penis on stage (don’t think there was one in 1973)
They toured without Mick Jagger?
Yes, that’s childish
I started reading the Hoffman thread and within the first couple of pages they were already dissing the cover, the track listing, the mixing and the mastering, despite only one sing actually being released. It must be exhausting for those guys sometimes.
My opinion? Love You Live is a bit of a mess (the start of Jagger just yelling the first syllable of each word) and while the El Macambo stuff sounds good and intimate it showcases a period of Stones music for which I have little tolerance (early blues/r&b). The expanded set list, however, looks interesting.
This will be good! As has been said, it is the best side of Love You Live by a country mile.
As an aside, I was given the archive release Live in Leeds from Roundhay Park in 1982 last week for my birthday (my daughter lives a stones (ha!) throw away from there) and it’s pretty dire – a couple of decent versions, but that’s about it. The material doesn’t help much, being large helpings of Stones by numbers tracks from the likes of Emotional Rescue and Tattoo You.
Having been there, I would agree. Luckily Joe Jackson had already stolen the show ahead the main act.
Enjoyed the Wembley show at the same time (my first), but I think nearly every subsequent gig I saw (27 of them) was better
I notice from the linked piece that I can “pre-save”. That’s a good option.
Agreed.
I’m going to take them up on their offer and pre-save by not buying
Having only done Stones ‘O’ level, on first reading this thread title caused some confusion. “El Mocambo?” Is this a nickname for Eric Morecambe’s small but dedicated band of Spanish fans? Or a satirical re-brand of Britain’s best known seaside resort with quicksand? Ok, now I know it’s the Toronto club where the Stones played a surprise gig in 1977 with Mrs Trudeau in attendance.
Mocambo is a Portuguese word meaning a small settlement, particularly one founded by escaped slaves in colonial Brazil.
“Eyyyyy gringo, you cannoh see de join!”
If it is anywhere near as good as Elvis Costello and the attractions live at El Mocambo it might be worth buying.
Yes, got the EC El M platter in the far off days when it was just a boot.
Remains one of my favourite of his albums to this day
That’s a different band though…
Don’t think so. The boot I have is with the Attractions and was recorded in 1978
