Probably the first mention of The Farm on this blog. Funny, in 1990-1991 they were Quite The Thing.
Does this count as album #1? They’d been around for years, had their t-shirts on Brookside, and – crucially – had a compilation of singles released 5 years before.
Yebbut… er….Wiki lists it as their debut album. And that’s always right.
I think that (along with Right Said Fred), The Farm hold the dubious title of worst-selling follow-up (Love See No Colour) to a UK Number 1 Album (Spartacus)…
They were the first band I saw live, supporting Inspiral Carpets in 1991.

The High. Been listening to that album recently and I think it’s one of the few “baggy” albums that’s aged well. Er, probably cos it’s not that baggy.
Really liked that Blue Tourist ep too. Didn’t they then record a heavy metal album (Hype?) that didn’t get released?
Somewhere Soon is brilliant – if it had been released in 1995 they would have been on Chris Evans and TotP every other week. Not sure if that’s a good thing but…
I can’t comment on the afterlife of the High except that a friend of a friend of a friend was in a band with one of them that got a decent sized record deal in about 2002 and… were never heard of again.

I remember being at one of Tony Wilson’s In the City concerts in Manchester vaguely about then and seeing a band with two ex members in who were alright…. And then nothing.
No idea what they were called. The guy I knew was a bit of a fantasist and a borderline alcoholic.* Perfect rock star material!

Comin’ ta getcha! Foxy Lady – Jimi Hendrix Experience. None of the youtube clips sound right to me. Maybe I remember it through rose-tinted ears. The first time I saw them they opened with FL. All the lights were turned off before the band came on stage. That soft intro in pitch black then the sliding power chord as the lights came up. Brilliant.
