Wish I’d taken the time to vote now – most of my votes would have gone to titles in the 1, 1 range!
Good work though @dai – interesting to see what folks have been buying.
Particularly pleasing to see Bruce Cockburn’s True North collection get a vote; I really do like those earlier albums of his a lot, and many titles on True North have been a tad expensive to find here in the UK for ages now.
Great to see Metrobolist sneak in at the bottom there.
Thanks, dai.
Great stuff Dai – thanks for doing this. Was going to say that you missed one of mine off but upon checking I realise it was actually released in 2019. It all blurs into one these days…
Perfectly possible I have missed a few, I normally do. This one easier though as much fewer total votes to deal with.
nice one Dai
As far as I can see out of 60 boxsets, Prince had the most voters with only 6. Goes to show that these box sets are fairly niche even amongst our kinds. I guess that is why they are so expensive – the audiences are very limited, but quite devoted.
A lot easier to listen to new albums on Spotify etc. I wonder how many voting in the new albums section actually bought physical products. Some box sets are available in full on streaming services, but that is only part of it, with DVDs, blu-rays, vinyl, books, marbles and scarves also often included in increasingly lavish boxes.
I bought 43 out of my Top 45 new albums as physical CDs or vinyl LPs.
Fine work, Dai. Although, as Paulw says, just goes to show what a niche product boxsets are. If they are not going to sell on here…
Cheers. See reply above. Mainly will be bought by uber fans of the artist in question. I have bought way too many though ….
I don’t think they’re uber fans (if that term suggests more commitment or knowledge), I think they’re just people who like to buy stuff.
That Top 10 … what’s the average cost?
£120?
I am not entirely sure Lodey. I know of people who haven’t voted on this post but who have purchased boxsets this year. It might be an indication as opposed to a definitive position.
Shut up already! Damn! But thanks, @dai.
£100 … with the caveat that the one at no. 9 seems to only be a download.
Who exactly pays £312 for “Flaming Pie” unless Paul himself comes round to your house, plays an hour of songs NOT on “Flaming Pie,” then bakes you a flaming pie, and then fixes your guttering?
Even then, it’s taking the piss.
Mine cost about 90 quid and Flaming Pie is a perfectly decent album. Clearly not for you
I bought the 3 vinyl album package. It cost me about £50. Love this album. Very happy with my purchase.
Same sentiments for Wildflowers.
Thank you for the interesting poll Dai.
Great job Dai and good to see my top 2 are the overall top 2.
I do wonder though with box set / reissue polls whether we are voting for the actual album being a favourite or the quality of the reissue. As it happens SOTT and Wildflowers are up there as favourites of mine of both artists, but I do think that I voted for them due to them being very good and comprehensive reissues.
@Chrisf I agree. I bought a number of box sets this year – those two were the cream of the crop by some distance although the Richard and Linda box was also exceptional. Some such as Bob Marley I dont consider to be a ‘true boxset’ rather a collection of his cd’s in a box. Good value for money though and thanks to @dai for taking the time
Thanks Dai. Surprised Goats Head Soup wasn’t higher but a great reference for what is out there.
I should have voted for the Focus box but am still wading through it. Talk about value for money – 9cds and 2 dvds for c £50. Nicely remastered and good booklet. It’s the only box set I acquired this year ( in fact in last 10 yrs or so) and therefore must the best.
