This popped up online today. Brian Eno’s new turntable is limited to an edition of fifty no idea of price. I still have my vinyl but I don’t have a turntable wired up to my system anymore. If I did this would fit in rather well. Seen any other Afterword friendly stocking fillers?
Arthur Cowslip says
Grr. This looks really brilliant, but I have an instant hate reaction to “art” which deliberately limits itself to a “special edition”, thereby engineering an unrealistic demand. I bet they cost a fortune.
Mind you, maybe we’ll get some copyists manufacturing a cheaper version now.

I’ve put Christmas lights on my Rega and made it available in an edition of 1. I’ll be taking offers in a Dutch auction. Reserve price is five grand.

Already have this one:

Got it reduced naturally

It does look much better in the black version. Nice.

Because I am very dull, just by looking at it I can tell you it is (a) made by Pro-Ject Audio Systems (b) fitted with an Ortofon 2M Red cartridge (c) based on £299 Debut Carbon model.
It is basically their “Beatles 1964 Recordplayer” (£500-ish) in a Perspex skirt.
I imagine it looks better than it sounds.
Lunaman says
I thought it might be style over content but it looks lovely.
So talking of stocking fillers. May I ask @fentonsteve any hi-fi related products which you seen this year which might appeal to those of us with moderate means?
fentonsteve says
Beyond ‘Buy a Fiio’, what do you fancy?
The best value hi-fi related product I’ve ever bought was a Knosti Disco Antistat record cleaning bath. 40 quid for cleaner and, more importantly, better-sounding vinyl.
I went on to buy myself a second-hand Pro-ject vaccuum cleaning machine, which is fine for new vinyl, but I still run old and second-hand vinyl through the Knosti first.

And a decent (short-hair) carbon fibre stylus brush like a Thakker or Pro-ject Clean-IT (sub-£10) and a bottle of Nagaoka Hi clean 801 stylus cleaning fluid (£20 a bottle, which will last a lifetime).
Lunaman says
I’m not playing vinyl in my set up but cheers for the pointers.
I’m awaiting my third set of phones for ears in about a year.
I’ve found that updating my set up to play music has renewed my enthusiasm for listening and widened the type of music I’ve been listening to. So thanks for your part in nudging me to find out who Filo are which in turn kick started my update.

I love their pastry.
fentonsteve says
I should add “Encouraging other people to spend their money” to my CV.
Vulpes Vulpes says
Style over content.
That’s Eno’s career summed up nicely then, right there.

Both unseasonably harsh and unforgivably inaccurate…

How about for the folk singer in your family, a singing holiday in Croatia with Rachel and Becky Unthank? Bookings open on Monday 20th.

Philistine that I am, I still like Jaygee’s suggestion – although I think I’d have left out the LP titles

I’d buy one of those, but would be wary of it impersonating a tree in response to that day’s Oblique Strategy.

Also “the tape is the music” – where does that leave the purchaser?
